Jake,

We finally finished up the family room addition. It took longer
than expected, but that’s OK since we did make some changes as we went along. Now that it is “done”, we are having a terrible time getting our contractor to come back and take care of warranty items. I wish he was as prompt as he was when he came by to collect his money. In talking to other people that have used him, I guess this is pretty typical. Is the “pretty typical” in the remodeling business?

Confused in Country Side

Dear Confused,

I don’t know how “typical” it is, but is seems to be a reoccurring theme with a lot of homeowners who have remodeled. We do not find it to be an acceptable way of doing business. At Schloegel Design Remodel, our “Process” includes both a 60 day walk through and a 10 month
walk through. This is a commitment on our part to service your job
throughout your warranty period and it helps to assure you that all the
little things will get done.

Dear Jake,

We want to completely remodel our 2nd floor hall bathroom. I have heard the horror stories about all of the dust that permeates the house. Some friends of ours ended up having to redecorate the entire entry hall, stairway and 2nd floor hallway because of the damage caused during the project. Is this to be expected?

Leary in Lenexa

Dear Leary,

No, it does not have to be expected. Part of the Schloegel Design Remodel “Process” is to conduct a pre-construction meeting between you, the project manager and designer to thoroughly review you expectations
in terms of dust control and furniture protection. We go to great lengths
to protect the floors, walls and furnishings of all the areas affected
during your remodeling project. Cleanliness of the job site is a very
important part of our process. We are very often sighted for the care we
show to our homeowners. Dust control should always be one of the questions you ask of your Design Remodel contractor.

Dear Jake,

We had friends that just recently finished up a remodeling project. The “3 month job” took almost 7 months to complete. We are considering a remodeling of our kitchen and there is no way we can afford to
be out of our kitchen for that length of time. After talking to several
other people, this type of time over-runs seems to be par for the course.
What gives?

Worried in Waldo

Dear Worried,

Unfortunately, the saying “it took twice as long and cost twice as much as
we were originally told” has become far too common amongst homeowners who have remodeled. In fact, it is almost expected and worst yet, accepted as a normal way of doing business. At Schloegel Design Remodel, we have a proven and verifiable track record of delivering jobs on time and on budget. It is part of the Schloegel “Process” that works for you – the homeowner.
