2019 Home Design Trends

Last updated on December 21, 2023

It’s hard to believe 2019 is upon us! We love keeping on up on design trends and what we can expect to see in the coming year. And while we have already started to see some of these trends the past several years we are excited to implement them in new projects this year. A few (floral wallpaper in particular) are trends we’ve seen in the past but more like the ’80s and ’90s. It’s always fun to see how old trends are brought back with a new spin!

Mixing metals

We’ve started to see the mix of metals over the last few years and 2019 is no different, in fact, we think we’ll be seeing it even more. No one needs to commit to one finish. If you love the look of brass but aren’t ready to commit every faucet and drawer pull. No problem, start with brass mirrors or knobs and mix them with a chrome or brushed nickel. Not only does it look great but it’s a look all your own!

Natural Elements

We have started to see some of our clients wanting something a little warmer in their space and we are definitely seeing more and more natural elements brought in from counters, shelves, and stools to décor. This kitchen brings in dimension with light wood cabinets, a darker stained island and live-edge shelves. We expect to see more stained wood kitchens, in fact, we’re installing one in our showroom right now!

Bathroom Mirrors Make a Statement

While a simple mirror above a vanity will always be classic the introduction of fun shapes and materials is welcome. These are two great examples of projects we recently completed with unique mirrors. Both unique but perfectly matched with the space’s design.

Rising Use of black

Black is the new white, wait, what? Black is everywhere! We are seeing black in cabinets, hardware, backsplashes, and even appliances! It’s a trend that is being picked up rapidly and we are on board. There is something about brass popping against a black backdrop that is just right.

Richer Color Palettes

It seems like white has been the go-to color for the last several years. White kitchens, white walls, white bedding, white furniture, etc. While it’s not going anywhere, we think we’ll start seeing a little more color this year particularly rich color palettes like this beautiful guest bathroom out of Mission Hills, KS designed by Donna Kirsopp.

Boldly Patterned Backsplashes

A home’s kitchen is no longer just a place to prepare a meal. It’s a gathering and entertaining space which is why it only makes sense to design the room to reflect the family’s needs and design aesthetic. One way to bring in a ton of personality is the backsplash. Both these kitchens have beautiful bold backsplashes and add to the home’s character.

Floral Fabrics and Wallpapers

I think it was just last year that my mother was lamenting the work involved to remove her floral wallpaper from her guest bedroom walls. Well, folks, it’s back but with a more modern take.

Trends are across the board from neutrals colors to bright from subtle prints to bold. It’s so much fun to see what people have chosen to do in their homes but even more, fun to design rooms that are perfect for your home!
