Frequently Asked Questions About Remodeling in Kansas City
Remodeling and renovation are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings in the home improvement industry. Renovation refers to restoring or repairing a structure to its previous or improved condition. It often involves updating and repairing an existing structure to enhance its appeal, functionality, or efficiency. Remodeling, on the other hand, involves changing the structure or form of a space. It's a more extensive process that often involves significant changes to the layout or design of a room or house.
The kitchen and bathrooms are often considered the most worth remodeling in terms of return on investment (ROI). These spaces are used frequently and can significantly impact a home's overall value and appeal. A well-executed kitchen or bathroom remodel can offer a higher ROI than other rooms when selling the house. However, the best area to remodel may also depend on the specific needs and preferences of the homeowner, as well as the current condition and design of the home.
Remodeling consists of making changes to the structure or layout of a space to improve its functionality, aesthetics, or efficiency. It often involves tasks such as demolishing walls, building new structures, installing new fixtures, updating plumbing or electrical systems, and finishing with new cabinetry, flooring, paint, and/or other decorative elements. Depending on the project's scope, it may also involve architectural design, permitting, and inspections.
Whether remodeling a house is cheaper than building a new one depends on several factors, including the extent of the remodeling, the condition of the existing house, and the materials selected. In general, minor to moderate remodeling projects can be less expensive than building a new house. However, extensive remodels involving significant structural changes or situations where the existing house is in poor condition may cost as much as or more than building a new home.
The kitchen is often the most expensive room to remodel. This is due to the complexity of the work involved, including installing new cabinetry, countertops, appliances, plumbing, and electrical systems. Additionally, high-quality materials commonly used in kitchens, such as granite or quartz countertops and custom cabinets, can add significantly to the cost. However, costs can vary widely depending on the scope of the project, size of the kitchen, and the specific materials chosen.
First, we have an initial consultation. During this consultation, we will discuss your vision including your style, needs, and budget. After the consultation, you will move into our Design Phase where we work with you on your design plans and your selections. After going through design, we will provide you with a detailed construction contract and timeline for your project. Once the contract is signed, we’ll ensure all necessary permits are obtained. The actual construction typically starts with any major demolition or structural changes. Then, systems like plumbing and electrical are updated or installed, followed by drywall, painting, and installation of fixtures. Finally, finishing touches like flooring and decorative elements are added. However, the exact sequence can vary depending on the specific project. Throughout the process we are here to answer any questions you may have.
