  • From Dated to Glamorous: An Overland Park Home Gets a Luxurious Glow-Up

Last updated on May 1, 2025

Step inside this Overland Park transformation, where we waved goodbye to a dated layout and said hello to a bright, open space that's become the vibrant heart of daily life. But the magic didn't stop in the stunning kitchen! We also sprinkled some smart design into a refreshed pantry and cleverly reimagined the laundry and closet areas for ultimate ease. Dreaming of a kitchen glow-up? This project is brimming with ideas on how thoughtful design can truly reinvent your entire home! The result? Pure elegance, and most importantly, happy clients now enjoying a home where everything just flows beautifully for them.

The "Before": Understanding our Overland Park Client’s Wants and Needs

Our clients in Overland Park were ready to say goodbye to a kitchen that felt dated and heavy. The original kitchen lacked the bright and airy feel they were looking for. There was limited workspace and for clients that love to cook this wasn’t ideal. Overall, the space was outdated and didn’t align with our client’s wish for a luxurious and glamourous aesthetic.

A kitchen with light-colored cabinets and countertops that have a mix of gold, beige, and brown spots. Shiny silver appliances are visible, including a refrigerator and oven. A window shows an outdoor view with a brick exterior partially visible. The floor is made of smooth, dark brown planks.
A kitchen with light-colored cabinets and speckled countertops. A shiny silver refrigerator and dishwasher are visible. A window shows a view of a snowy outdoors. There is a dark stovetop on a kitchen island. The floor is made of smooth, light brown planks.
A view of a kitchen area with off-white cabinets and a built-in desk. The cabinets have raised panel doors. A wooden chair is pulled up to the desk. A round table and chairs are visible in the background near large windows showing a snowy outdoor scene. The floor is made of smooth, dark brown planks.

Some specific pain points included laundry room and pantry challenges. Both spaces were inconvenient to use and lacked functionality. The office space right off the front entry was not used often. Our client dreamed of a larger laundry room within a large walk-in closet. Designer Andrea Stone worked with our team of drafters to come up with an option that turned the office space into both- a large closet with ample space and storage along with a new home for the washer and dryer.

A light-colored wall with white molding and two sets of white French doors with glass. A hanging light with crystals is near a white column. The floor is smooth and dark brown. A white door is seen in the distance.

Our Vision & Plans: Crafting the Transformation in Overland Park

This transformation began with a clear vision and a collaborative design process. During our initial discovery meeting, we took time to understand our client’s goals, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. Andrea worked closely with them to bring that vision to life—creating a space that’s not only functional but filled with elevated glamour and timeless charm.

From there, our in-house architect and drafting team of Leslie Hatfield, Hilary Bybee, and Katy Culwell, developed several layout options to address the flow and functionality of the main level. The final floor plan reimagined the kitchen, pantry, and closet/laundry areas in a way that dramatically improved how the space is used day to day. You can see the full scope of this transformation in the before and after floor plans below.

Design Choices: The Glam-Factor

This is the fun part! Andrehelped our clients to bring to life a kitchen filled with elevated glamour, luxurious charm, and timeless appeal. We went with dark, rich gray cabinetry contrasting with bright white quartz, paired with sleek creamy herringbone backsplash tile. Brass hardware and a glass chandelier would add warmth and elevate the glamour factor. One of the biggest requests of our client’s was a large kitchen island that had more room for seating and also plenty of counter space to prep and cook meals.

Bringing the Vision to Life: The Remodeling Process

For the construction phase our clients worked with a dedicated team including AndreaShannon Washam their Project Director along with Keith Brockman their Project Manager. This team handled everything from scheduling to craftsmanship, ensuring the ultimate client experience from start to finish.

A kitchen with exposed wooden beams forming the walls and pink insulation visible in some areas. The floor is mostly plywood with blue and red tape on it. A large window looks out at a brick wall. Two large gray containers are in the space.

The demolition phase involved gutting the kitchen. We removed the cabinets, appliances, backsplash and then floors.

A power tool, possibly a floor scraper or vacuum, sits on the finished section, indicating ongoing work to remove the existing flooring.

The team added drywall in the kitchen and old laundry room to get ready to make it the pantry. They also patched over what had once been the entry to the office but will now be a wall for the large closet.

We then installed cabinets and trim in the kitchen, pantry and mudroom area, along with new floors.
