Nestled in Blue Springs, this once-ordinary hall bathroom has been reborn as a sleek, modern, and spa-like oasis. Our clients were looking for a refreshing update, and we delivered a dramatic transformation without changing the existing footprint. The magic? It was brought to life through the design expertise of Schloegel Designer Jerick Stockton, seamlessly executed by the skilled craftsmanship of our Handyman Services Team. The result turned a functional space into a tranquil getaway within the Kansas City home.
The Before
The bathroom was functional, sure, but the overall aesthetic of the space wasn't aligned with our client's vision.

Dark floors, wallpaper, and a fiberglass shower enclosure made the space feel heavy and dated.

Our clients were looking for a way to update the hall bathroom without doing a full gut. The layout worked it was mainly new aesthetic design elements that would make the space feel brand new. Jerick helped our clients decide on neutral tile options, fixtures, counters, and our Handyman Services Team got to work!

The process began with drywall removal up to the ceiling in the shower area. Concrete board was installed on the floor to prep for new tile. Subfloor was replaced around the new drain location in the shower.

Next, we installed blocking for the shower seat. We also installed and sealed wallboard in the shower to prep for the tile.

Tile
To keep with the spa-like theme, we selected a neutral color scheme for a naturally zen and peaceful ambiance. Small off-white square tiles went in on the shower floor.

Larger rectangular tiles went down on the rest of the bathroom floor. Both of these options are a creamy color which will brighten up the space compared to the previous dark stained wood floors.

A simple way to make any shower space feel elevated is with custom seats, shelves, or niches. We installed a corner seat and shower niche after talking through options with our clients.

Another elevated design element to bring the spa-like vibes included a statement shower wall tile design. Jerick came up with a unique pattern to add some depth and dimension while still keeping things modern and sleek.

Once the shower niche was installed it was time to tile around it.

Satisfying tile progress!

After all the tile was laid it was time to grout. We opted for a bright white for most of the shower walls and a dark grey for the accent area.

After all the grout was finished, we moved on to the bathroom walls. Jerick and our client wanted to brighten things up and create a more serene feel in the space, so we said goodbye to the dark striped wallpaper. The team prepped, sanded, and primed the walls. Then went in with a custom finish plaster that was carefully hand painted on.

Once the walls were complete, we added the trim that was stained to match the existing vanity. Little details like this really help tie it all together and help blend the existing with the new.

After trim was installed, it was time for some of the final finishing details.

The installation of the glass shower door adds to the modern elevated feel. Sleek counters on the old vanity help to blend the new with the existing.

A modern faucet and showerhead paired with simple towel racks and hooks complete the space by adding to the feel of sophisticated serenity.
