Handyman Services Improves Lake Living with These Dock Upgrades
Last updated on November 6, 2024
As winter approaches in lake communities around Kansas City, it’s time to prep your boats and docks for the cold months ahead. But while you’re at it, why not consider giving your dock an upgrade this off-season? A little improvement now can make a big difference when summer rolls around again. This week, we’re spotlighting two recent projects completed by our Handyman Services Team, where we gave docks a much-needed refresh to ensure they’re ready for next summer’s fun.
A Complete Rebuild on Linn Valley Lake
This dock on Linn Valley Lake needed a full rebuild due to extensive wear and rot—a common challenge with lakeside structures over time. We sent Mark Garies and Jim Clark south to tackle the project, reinforcing the dock and replacing all the failing timber with sturdy, new boards. But before we dive into the details, take a moment to enjoy the peaceful lakeside view captured by Mark. Since beginning our work at Lake of the Ozarks, our team has come to cherish starting their days with serene scenes like this!
These clients were satisfied with their dock’s layout, but years of use had left the decking worn and warped, creating an uncomfortable and unsafe surface.
In addition to replacing all the timber for the platforms, we installed brand-new hardware to securely connect the deck components. This standard hardware allows for flexibility, adapting to changes in water levels and wakes to ensure the dock remains stable and safe.
The dock floats were still in great shape. We focused on removing the old decking and underlying structure. After clearing out all debris from underneath, we rebuilt the dock in its original layout and footprint.
The finished dock is now significantly more structurally sound, has a fresher appearance, and is ready for many more summers on the lake!
A New Bar on Lake of the Ozarks
This Lake of the Ozarks dock already had a storage structure, but our clients envisioned even more potential for summer enjoyment. Our Handyman Team took on the task of adding a custom bar, transforming the space into a fun and convenient lakeside staple. We incorporated upper and lower cabinetry for easy storage, ample counter space for serving, and a mini fridge to keep snacks and drinks cool during those warm summer days.
The bar’s durable design—complete with painted finishes and beadboard walls—is stylish and built for longevity. We installed a rolling door for extra protection from the elements and to make it easy to close up when the bar isn’t in use. The compact layout keeps plenty of room in the shed for essentials like lifejackets, floats, and other supplies.
These dock transformations have us more excited than ever to bring even more enhancements to our lake communities around Kansas City—and now at our new service location at Lake of the Ozarks! If you’re dreaming of upgrades to your lakeside retreat for the 2025 summer season, our design team is ready to help make it a reality.
