At Schloegel Design Remodel, Olivia’s Big Splash Custom Bathroom Giveaway is one of the greatest things we get to work on. It’s not just a remodel—it’s a life-changing gift. Through this initiative, we provide families with freedom and accessibility in their homes, something that can be out of reach without assistance.
Today we’re excited to introduce you to the 2025 recipient, Colton Kinnard!

Choosing just one recipient is incredibly tough. Every single applicant has a story that tugs at your heart, and all of them deserve a home that gives them the freedom and ease they need. It’s a reminder of how much good there is still to do and why this program means so much to us. Today is Giving Tuesday—a perfect time to help more families like Colton’s. Read on to learn how you can make a difference!
Meet Colton Kinnard

Colton is a bright and energetic 12-year-old with an infectious love for cars. His knowledge of car makes, models, and intricate details makes him a go-to expert. A true enthusiast, Colton collects Hot Wheels and spends hours building intricate Lego car models.
At age 5, Colton was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD weakens muscles in the limbs, heart, and lungs. After a fall in 2021 broke Colton’s leg, he has relied on a wheelchair for mobility.
The Challenge: Accessibility at Home
The Kinnard family’s home, built in 1908, presents challenges that reflect its age. While Colton’s wheelchair just fits through the back door and into the kitchen, the bathroom doorway is too narrow. As a result, Colton cannot access his bathroom. Even if the doorway were wide enough, the existing sink, toilet, and shower are not designed to meet his needs.

Despite these limitations, the Kinnard family has shown remarkable creativity and resourcefulness in supporting Colton. But he deserves more than workaround solutions—he deserves independence and dignity in his own space.
What’s Coming
We can’t wait to work with Colton and the Kinnard family to transform their bathroom into a fully accessible, functional space. Designers Kelly Summers and Leslie Hatfield will craft a plan to meet Colton’s unique needs. While we don’t have a plan yet we know it’ll include a larger doorway, roll-in shower, and accessible sink. We’re also grateful to partner with the Olivia Bloomfield Foundation to understand and help meet as many of Colton’s needs as possible! us to understand and support Colton’s needs. Stay tuned for updates as we bring this vision to life!
