When a wonderful family asked us to create a secure space for their differently abled granddaughter's visits, we were honored to help. Our team transformed the lake home's basement into a private, comfortable, and beautiful retreat designed specifically for her unique needs.
Preparation and Electrical Upgrades
Our commitment to a clean and efficient worksite began immediately at this Lake of the Ozarks remodeling project. After dropping off materials, saws, and the necessary dehumidifier, our team focused on installation and dust protection to secure the surrounding area. The first major step was ensuring the electrical system was safe and functional. We relocated an existing outlet and replaced an old fluorescent light with a new work light box. We thoroughly tested all circuits and clearly labeled the breaker panel—a vital detail often handled by our expert handyman services team—to ensure all electrical work was sound and compliant before moving on.
Framing and Structural Integrity
The core of this specialized remodel was creating structural security. The framing process involved layout work for the new custom features, including the unique trundle bed nook and the knee wall. After cutting and installing the framing around the ductwork (wrapping it in OSB for a finished look), we focused on securing the primary walls. This required drilling into the basement concrete floor to attach the treated bottom plates, followed by framing the knee wall and the closet wall. Every structural element was carefully built to ensure the entire room would be safe and secure, demonstrating the high-quality remodeling standards of excellence we bring to every project in the Lake of the Ozarks area.
Insulation and Drywall Finishing
With the framing complete, we moved on to create a comfortable, quiet, and finished space. We installed insulation throughout the ceiling joists and walls, ensuring energy efficiency and sound dampening. We also carefully fire-blocked all penetrations for electrical work as part of our safety protocol.
Next, our team tackled the drywall installation. This required precise cutting and furring out uneven existing walls to achieve a perfectly flush transition. After breaking down the drywall jack, we applied Flex 90 to all inside and outside corners and applied multiple coats of mud, followed by extensive sanding to create surfaces ready for a professional finish. It's starting to feel like a room!
Painting and Trim Work
The finish carpentry and painting stages really brought the room to life. We began by installing door jamb extensions and adding casing around the doors and the baseboards, which were then caulked. After masking off all hardware, we applied spray primer and back-rolled the walls light pink and ceilings white. Our painting included two coats of high-quality enamel on all trim and doors. We finished cutting in and rolling both coats of wall paint to perfection, ensuring a seamless finish that is a hallmark of our handyman services and remodeling projects.
Custom Bed Nook, Safety Rail, and Lighting
The final steps focused on the room's specialized safety features. We moved the client's cabinet and then tackled the custom trundle bed nook and safety rail. This required assembling the bed and carefully marking the location for the bottom rail's carriage bolts. Our team used an angle grinder to modify the carriage bolts and painted them white to ensure a discreet, seamless look. We finished by installing the ceiling fan and the interior door hardware and the slide latch to the closet doors, completing the secure, functional, and beautiful space for our Lake of the Ozarks clients.
