But often, these beloved homes come with spaces that are ready for a refresh, especially when it comes to bathrooms or kitchens that haven't kept pace with modern living.
That's exactly where our wonderful clients found themselves. After purchasing their Westwood ranch a little over two years ago, they adored the location but knew the house needed some work to truly fit their lifestyle. They reached out to us for design inspiration, and we decided to tackle their hall bathroom first. As the main bathroom for guests and their kids, it's a high-traffic area with a big impact on daily life. The "Before" & The Vision
When we first stepped into this hall bathroom, it was a classic example of a space that had served its purpose but was now ready for an upgrade. The original tile (laid on a very uneven floor), standard vanity and vessel sink, along with the basic tub/shower combo felt dated, lacked personality, and offered inefficient storage. It simply didn't reflect our clients' vibrant style or meet the needs of a busy family.
Our clients wanted a bathroom space that felt truly "theirs". Our approach was to update everything to work better for them, while adding the right amount of personality and modern flair. We made the decision to keep the existing footprint since the overall layout worked. This allowed us to maximize impact within their budget and in the space without needing any major structural changes. Focusing on the hall bath first meant we could immediately improve daily function for the kids and guests, bringing instant positive change and ease for the family.
The Transformation: Key Elements & Design Choices
The transformation of this hall bath hinged on thoughtful design and smart choices to add both depth and personality. But before we could bring in the fun design elements it was out with the old- demo time! The team removed the old vanity, toilet, tile, and tub/shower combo.
Next was time for plumbing and electrical rough ins. We made sure the electrical wires were in the right spots for the new light switches and can lights in the ceiling.
The plumbing rough in phase consisted of adjusting pipes and ensuring everything was lined up for the new shower and tub hook ups and the sink and toilet. This was easy since nothing was changing in location.
Next it was time to cover everything back up by patching in the drywall we previously removed. Once the drywall was hung, taped, mudded, and sanded it was ready for paint.
We had to pay close attention to the uneven floors. We used a self-leveling compound to ensure a smooth even surface before we could prep for laying tile.
Once the floors were even and dry we went in with cement board.
Then cabinets were delivered! A major pain point for our clients was the lack of storage, so custom cabinetry became a cornerstone of our design. We replaced the existing, inefficient setup with beautiful custom storage cabinets and vanity.
These cabinets allowed us to maximize every inch, providing organized and ample storage that perfectly fit our client's needs. We opted for a clean, classic cabinet style with a fun green color to add a pop of personality. Our clients wanted a fun shade of green and it turned out so perfect for the space.
We then turned our attention to the tub/shower combo, giving it a complete refresh. We installed light pink Zellige inspired tiles for the surround, extending them to the ceiling for a clean, contemporary feel that also created the illusion of more height. This integration instantly elevated the shower and bath area into a fresh, fun, and highly functional space.
To ground the room and tie the new elements together, we installed new floor tile. We went with black hexagon tiles to add some depth and dimension to the space. Our skilled handyman team played a crucial role, ensuring every detail was executed with precision, bringing the client's vision for this modern bathroom to life.
The "After"
The result is fresh and spunky! This Westwood hall bathroom has been completely reimagined, feeling more modern, and incredibly inviting. It’s no longer just a functional space; it’s a beautifully designed bathroom that genuinely feels like home for our clients. The increased, custom storage has simplified their daily routines, and the updated aesthetics provide a fun backdrop for both the kids and visiting guests.
