  • Bathroom Remodel – 5 Factors to Consider

Last updated on December 10, 2022

Bathroom renovations are one of the best ways for homeowners to quickly and affordably add value to their home. Bathroom trends come and go more quickly than other home trends, which make a freshly remodeled bathroom one of the must-have features for homeowners in 2017.

But before you dive headfirst into a renovation, consider these five factors when remodeling your bathroom:

1. What is the Extent of Work Required for Your Bathroom Remodel?

For many homeowners, remodeling jobs are strictly superficial. Upgrading your tub or shower is often done out of the need to modernize rather than a necessity to replace a worn out unit. With that being said, it’s important to take an unbiased look at your bathroom to truly assess what is required. If you are upgrading your toilet or tub, you may also need to upgrade the piping, which will come at an additional cost. All these small choices must be made while figuring out your budget and the scope of work needed to get the bathroom of your dreams.

2. Showers and Tubs

One of the biggest trends we are seeing in new bathrooms this year is separate tubs and showers. Standalone tubs are ideal for creating that “spa-inspired” look that is popular these days. Shower stalls are also convenient and popular in modern bathrooms. Before making any further decisions, you should think about the shower and tub. Do you need both in the bathroom? Is the bathroom big enough for separate units? Do you still want to combine the units? Making these choices will provide the backbone for your renovation.

3. Illuminate the Space with Quality Lighting

The bathroom is where many individuals in your home get ready for the day; this means you’ll need ample lighting keep everyone in your family happy. Task lighting near the mirror and in the shower area are ideal, that way you can have lighting where you need it most. The lighting fixtures will also help tie in the design of your room, so make sure you are taking into consideration the aesthetic appeal of your lights compared to the overall design of your new bathroom.

4. Efficient Fixtures Help Save Money

When it comes to the bathroom, investing a little extra in an energy-efficient fixture or dual-flush toilet will help save you money in the long run. These plumbing appliances help conserve water and use less energy to operate so not only are you getting lower energy bills, but you can rest easy knowing your carbon footprint is also reduced.

5. Trends are Not Always Your Friend

Flipping through a trendy home décor magazine, you’ll be bombarded with ideas that you’ll want to see realized in your own home. When planning your bathroom renovation, try choosing one or two key trends to go with and then plan the rest of the renovation on ideas that you genuinely like and that will actually work in your home. Just because something is trendy, doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. Recognize what works and what don’t work for you and go from there.
