  • A Love Story In Design: Handyman Services Creates a Powder Bath That Speaks to the Heart

Last updated on February 10, 2025

This Valentine’s Day, we’re feeling sentimental about the many charming spaces we’ve helped bring to life over the years. At Schloegel, our passion is inspiring people to love their homes, and this transformation is just one example of how thoughtful design can create an intimate, inviting atmosphere. Whether it’s a cozy living room, a welcoming kitchen, or a beautifully remodeled powder bath, we believe every detail plays a role in making a house feel like home. This week, we’re thrilled to highlight a precious powder bath, recently completed by our Handyman Services team, that embodies romance, elegance, and functionality in the most delightful way. They say love is in the details, and this powder bath remodel is proof that even the smallest spaces can have a big impact—just like the little gestures that make Valentine’s Day special. Designed by Perry Holloway and meticulously crafted by Emily Robbins, this project showcases how intentional design can bring warmth and charm into everyday life.

A Powder Bath Ready for a Fresh Start

Our clients were looking to refresh their powder bath, located just off the entryway of their Mission Hills home. While charming in its time, the space had become outdated, with design elements that no longer suited their style or functional needs. The pedestal sink, with its scalloped shell shape, felt dated and didn’t complement the existing floor tile or cream-colored tile wainscoting—both of which were also in need of an update. The gold wallpaper, which wrapped around the space, had begun peeling and cast an overly yellow glow that made the room feel aged and dim. Though the existing toilet was still functional, its placement made the already small space feel even more cramped, making it difficult to use comfortably. Our clients envisioned a bathroom that felt more open, efficient, and stylish. They wanted to maximize the space through clever design solutions and modern installation methods that weren’t available when the powder bath was originally designed.

From Outdated to Outstanding: Transforming the Powder Bath

The first step was demolition—removing the outdated elements to make way for a fresh new design. When we opened up the walls, we uncovered the original plaster and lathe, which we replaced with modern drywall for a smoother finish.

The flooring presented another challenge. Underneath the existing tile, we discovered a second layer of even older tile, which had to be carefully removed before we could install the new flooring.

To optimize the layout and improve functionality, we made significant plumbing modifications. We installed a wall-mounted toilet, which required rerouting the plumbing inside the wall to accommodate the concealed tank system. Additionally, we prepared the plumbing for a sleek wall-mounted faucet—an upgrade that not only saves counter space but also enhances the modern aesthetic of the powder bath.

Once all of the plumbing was reformatted, we installed new subfloor and used self-leveler to prep the space for new tile.

A Space To Fall In Love With

Gentle lavender hues set the stage for a space that’s now not only beautiful but also timeless. The new wallpaper wraps the space in a softer and more inviting atmosphere with a subtle texture that adds depth and interest. Every love story has it’s defining moments and for this powder bath there are two. Firstly, a new quartz pedestal sink with purple veining is like a modern sculpture with a space-saving wall-mounted faucet. Second, we maximized the space even further with a wall-mounted toilet and wall-integrated control panel that leaves the floor space open. A new floor of white circle mosaic tiles with dark veining complements the sink and adds a cohesive, polished feel. The finishing touch? Chrome fixtures that replace the outdated polished brass, bringing a sleek and timeless elegance to the space.

A powder bath is often one of the most used yet overlooked spaces in a home. This remodel transforms it into a place where guests feel welcomed and homeowners feel delighted every time they walk in. For this transformation, function and beauty go hand in hand—just like the best love stories.

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or just another day, your home should make you feel special. Thinking of refreshing a space in your home? Let’s create something beautiful together!
