We’re excited to share that Schloegel Design Remodel received two honors at the 2025 designKC Awards. This annual celebration showcases the very best in Kansas City design, and it’s an honor to stand alongside so many creative professionals. These recognized projects exemplify our passion for craftsmanship, innovation, and meaningful design. Take a closer look at the projects that caught the judges’ attention.

The Vinyl Lounge | Honorable Mention | Interior Project: Single Space

The goal of this project was to create a refined, immersive listening space worthy of a true audiophile. Our repeat client had recently acquired a rare set of vintage Altec Lansing 19 speakers and wanted a room that could honor both their sound quality and their significance. Inspired by the warmth and sophistication of Jimmy Fallon’s personal music room, he envisioned a space that felt elevated and inviting — not a hobby room, but a retreat designed for settling in and experiencing music. His vision was to transform a small listening nook and adjoining game room into a dedicated “Vinyl Lounge” that balanced performance, comfort, and craftsmanship.
To achieve this, we focused on two priorities: creating a rich, intimate atmosphere and designing custom storage that showcased his extensive vinyl collection in an artful, accessible way. The final design connects the listening room and vinyl vault through a reworked archway, allowing sound and sightlines to flow while preserving architectural character. Rift-sawn white oak cabinetry, leathered stone, warm textiles, and acoustical treatments work together to support sound quality and envelop the space in warmth. Every element was carefully chosen to elevate both the listening experience and the aesthetic, resulting in a space that feels purposeful, personal, and truly worthy of the music it holds.
Congrats to Designer, Nina Schmidt and Shannon Washam for creating such a stunning and unique space.

Once Upon A Kitchen | Honorable Mention | Kitchen-Up To 300 sq ft

In one of Kansas City’s historic neighborhoods, a 1929 Tudor was ready for its next chapter. While the home’s exterior and architectural details had aged beautifully, the kitchen had not. A narrow galley layout and a dated 1980s DIY remodel left the space dark, inefficient, and disconnected from the home’s original character.
When our clients moved in, they saw an opportunity to restore that charm while making the kitchen work for modern life. Their goals were to open the footprint, improve flow, and create a space that felt both functional and timeless. A working island with a Wolf cooktop, improved storage, tile floors, and a Craftsman-inspired aesthetic guided the design. By opening the kitchen to the adjacent breakfast nook and carefully reworking the layout, we created a brighter, more welcoming space that feels true to the home’s 1929 roots. Warm wood cabinetry, rich stone, and classic finishes complete a kitchen that looks as though it has always been part of the story.
This project was led by an incredible team: Designer Nina Schmidt, Project Manager Brandon Brewington, and Director Andy Gower.
