Bathroom Refresh at Lake of the Ozarks: Modern Updates Without a Full Remodel

For this Lake of the Ozarks client, we completed a two-bathroom refresh, updating both the primary bathroom and a hall bath used by guests. The goal was simple: create spaces that feel brighter, cleaner, and more modern, while still being practical for everyday use and entertaining at the lake.

The Existing Bathrooms: What Wasn’t Working 

Before we got started, both bathrooms were fully functional but visually, they felt tired and dated. 

Common issues included: 

• Outdated finishes that made the spaces feel darker  
• Fixtures that no longer matched current design trends  
• A lack of cohesion across surfaces and materials  
• Spaces that didn’t reflect the clean, relaxed feel our clients wanted for their lake home

While the layouts worked well (which is key), the overall look simply needed a refresh to better match modern living. 

Design Vision & Client Goals 

From the beginning, our clients were clear about what they wanted, and just as importantly, what they didn’t want. 

They weren’t looking for a full gut remodel. Instead, they wanted: 

• A brighter, light and airy feel
• Clean, timeless finishes  
• Updated fixtures for a modern look  
• Spaces that feel welcoming for both everyday use and guests  

For the primary bathroom, that meant enhancing the double vanity and walk-in shower to feel fresh and elevated. 

For the hall bathroom, the focus was on creating a clean, updated tub/shower space that feels polished and guest-ready. 

Overall, the goal was consistency—two bathrooms that feel cohesive, calm, and effortless. 

Construction: How We Refreshed the Space 

This is where a handyman bathroom refresh really shines. For this project, Emily Robbins, Lester Withers, and Keith Brockman led the work. 

Because we weren’t changing layout or plumbing locations, we were able to focus on high-impact updates that completely transformed the look. Our focus was:

• New countertops and sinks  
• Modern plumbing fixtures in a cohesive finish  
  
• Bright white Onyx shower and wall panels 

First, we began with demolition to remove everything that wasn’t working for our clients. 

After demo, the team installed the new Onyx shower floor pan in the primary bathroom and a new tub in the hall bathroom. 

This material is a great option because it’s low-maintenance and highly durable. In addition, it provides a sleek, clean look that appeals to many homeowners. As a result, the bathrooms not only became easier to maintain but also gained a more modern, polished finish.

Finally, we installed new countertops and sinks, then tied everything together with crisp matte black plumbing fixtures throughout the spaces. We then installed a sliding barn door to cut down on congestion in the shower and toilet room of the primary bathroom. In the end, the bathrooms have a timeless black-and-white aesthetic that feels both light and airy. 

Throughout the process, our team kept things moving efficiently while maintaining a clean job site. And as always, communication stayed front and center, so our clients knew exactly what to expect at every stage.

The primary bathroom now feels open, airy, and elevated. The double vanity offers both function and symmetry, while the updated finishes create a clean, timeless look. 

The Delta Matte Black plumbing fixtures made the space feel classic but elevated.

The walk-in shower, paired with sleek glass and subtle contrast details, adds just the right amount of modern edge without overwhelming the space. 

Hall Bathroom After 

The hall bath now feels fresh, simple, and guest-ready. With updated finishes and a clean tub/shower combo, it’s a space that feels both functional and thoughtfully designed.
