Where This Lenexa Whole Home Remodel Began
Before we reveal the finished spaces, let's take a quick look back.
Like many homes, this one no longer supported the way the family lived. Storage felt limited. Daily routines felt scattered. The kitchen worked, but it wasn't working as hard as it could.
Most importantly, the home lacked dedicated spaces for the activities happening every day.
That's where the vision began.

The Final Reveal: A Modern Lenexa Whole Home Remodel Built for Real Life
The completed spaces feel warm, functional, and welcoming.

Every detail serves a purpose. The kitchen now offers improved storage, better organization, and more room for gathering.
Meanwhile, the custom details add personality without sacrificing practicality. The live-edge counter table has quickly become a favorite spot.

It creates a casual place to gather throughout the day. Whether it's breakfast, homework, or conversation, the family naturally gravitates toward it.
The result feels polished. But more importantly, it feels personal.

Across the room, the fireplace creates a striking focal point. The dark paint and tile selection add depth and contrast while tying directly into the black accents found throughout the kitchen. As a result, the spaces feel connected, cohesive, and intentionally designed from one end of the room to the other.

The powder bath became an opportunity to have a little fun. The wallpaper adds personality and charm while creating a memorable experience for guests. At the same time, the black finishes tie back to elements used throughout the kitchen and surrounding spaces, helping the home's overall design feel intentional, connected, and complete.

Just outside the powder bath, is the entry for the laundry room.

The reimagined laundry room is proof that hardworking spaces deserve thoughtful design. A more efficient layout maximizes storage while creating dedicated zones for laundry, organization, and everyday household tasks.

By giving crafts and schoolwork a home of their own, the family can keep the kitchen counters clear and daily clutter under control. A door allows the space to be closed off when needed and maintaining clean sightlines throughout the adjacent areas.

A Home That Works Better for Family Life
One of the most rewarding parts of any remodel is seeing the spaces come to life. That happened almost immediately here.
The redesigned laundry room has become one of the hardest-working spaces in the home. Unlike the original layout, the new design serves multiple functions while keeping everything organized.
Built-in desk space creates a dedicated area for work, household management, and daily tasks. Additional storage keeps supplies tucked away yet easy to access.
The space has already evolved beyond its original purpose.
The girls have claimed the desk area as an art and project station. As a result, school projects, crafts, and creative activities stay contained in one dedicated location instead of spreading into the kitchen and living areas.

Just beyond the laundry room, the new mudroom drop zone is already making a noticeable difference in the family's daily routine.
Located between the garage entry, powder bath, and kitchen, it creates the perfect landing spot for shoes, backpacks, purses, keys, and everyday essentials. Instead of clutter migrating into other areas of the home, everything now has a designated place.
The added storage solutions help the family stay organized while keeping surrounding spaces cleaner and more functional.
To further support that goal, the design team incorporated a sliding door at the mudroom entrance. When closed, it conceals the activity and storage behind it while maintaining clean sightlines from the kitchen and main living areas.
It's a simple feature, but one that provides flexibility for real life.
The family is also making full use of the gathering spaces created during the remodel.
More importantly, the kitchen now allows the entire family to participate without feeling crowded. Whether they're making homemade pizzas, helping with meal prep, or cleaning up afterward, everyone has room to spread out and contribute.
The updated layout creates dedicated zones for prep, cooking, serving, and cleanup. Features like the beverage drawer and dual sinks make it easy for family members to help themselves and pitch in throughout the process.
As a result, family dinners have become more interactive and enjoyable. Instead of one person working in a crowded kitchen, the space now supports connection, collaboration, and time together.
It's a simple change, but one that perfectly reflects the goal of this remodel: creating a home that works better for the people living in it.

Those moments may seem small. A family making pizza together. Kids working on art projects. Backpacks landing where they belong instead of on the kitchen floor. Yet those everyday moments were the driving force behind this remodel from the very beginning.
Beautiful finishes matter, but function matters even more. Today, the home supports the family's routines in ways it couldn't before. Storage is more intentional. Traffic flow feels easier. Everyday tasks require less effort.
Most importantly, the design creates more opportunities for connection and less frustration around clutter, congestion, and competing for space. That's the true measure of success. Not just how a home looks, but how it helps the people living in it every day!

Can Schloegel Design Remodel help with family-focused remodeling projects?
Absolutely.
Every family uses their home differently, which is why our design process starts with understanding how you live. We take time to learn about your routines, habits, challenges, and goals before creating solutions.
Our designers work closely with our in-house architectural team to develop floor plans that improve flow, functionality, and everyday living. We consider who uses each space, how they move through it, and what would make daily routines easier.
For one family, that may mean creating a mudroom drop zone to keep backpacks, shoes, and pet supplies organized. For another, it could mean separate vanity areas and a private toilet room to improve the morning rush. Others may benefit from a butler's pantry, additional prep space, or other storage solutions designed around the way they cook, entertain, and clean.
We don't believe in one-size-fits-all design.
Instead, we create spaces tailored to the people who live in them. Our goal is to understand how your home functions today, identify opportunities for improvement, and design a space that supports the way you want to live for years to come!
