  • Kansas City Kitchen Refresh: Tailored Cabinet Modifications for a Modern Look

Last updated on March 14, 2024

A refreshed look to your kitchen doesn’t have to mean a complete remodel. Our designers and Handyman Services Team can provide a completely new look by focusing on only the elements that are holding you back from your dream space. For this Kansas City kitchen refresh, designer Lindsay Brungardt worked with our clients to establish a more modern look for their kitchen. The countertop and cabinetry change our team provided gave this kitchen the perfect modern edge. Our Handyman team members Emily Robbins, Lester Withers, and Thomas Schauffler executed this project, providing a remodeled look without the additional cost or disruption.

A Kitchen Nearly There

Our clients loved almost everything about their kitchen. The white upper cabinets kept things bright, the tile backsplash and accent wall provided just enough character, and the range hood was the perfect stately centerpiece. However, the overall aesthetic was too traditional for their evolving taste. These clients did what they could to provide the kitchen with a more contemporary look with open shelving for sculptural elements and pottery, as well as appliances, plumbing fixtures, and bar seating that hinted at their design aspirations. All they needed was our help to get this space the rest of the way.

Cabinet Potential

We transformed this space by modifying the existing cabinets and updating the countertops to give our clients’ kitchen the modern refresh of their dreams. Before, all of the perimeter cabinets were the same white color, which made the space look a little stark, while the island was a gray color. We refinished all of the cabinets with new doors and drawer fronts, and the lower cabinets, along with the island, are now a bold black color that gives the kitchen a more dynamic look. All of the cabinets and drawers received new black and gold pulls and were installed with soft close hinges and slides so they feel as modern as they look.

Stunning New Countertops

The old perimeter countertops were granite with a heavy texture that contrasted the island with a solid white countertop. This combination didn’t give the kitchen a cohesive look our clients were going for. We swapped these out for stunning 3cm quartz countertops with the perfect amount of veining. To give the island another dramatic upgrade, and without altering the cabinets or bar seating underneath, we installed the new countertop with a waterfall edge that gives the island more visual weight and provides bold, crisp lines common in contemporary-style kitchens.

Finishing the Space with an Appliance Install

To compliment the fresh look of the cabinets and countertops, our Handyman team provided several appliance installation services. The new kitchen boasts an upgraded washing space with a new apron, a front undermount sink in black, and a faucet to match. Opposite is a new stove. Our clients opted to relocate their microwave out of direct eyesight and into the island. We retrofitted the existing cabinets to make space for the change, and the old microwave location is the perfect place to store and display serving platters, cutting boards, and cheese boards. To give the kitchen that last bit of modern flair, we also installed two new pendant lighting fixtures above the island.
