  • Starting Fresh with 2021 Paint Colors of the Year

Last updated on December 21, 2023

2021 is right around the corner and many, if not most, of us, are ready to put 2020 behind us. So, let’s look forward to the next year! The paint manufacturers yet again came up with their color(s) of the year. Some decided to introduce a palette rather than an individual color knowing that people are focusing on their homes more than ever. If you are ready for a room refresh look no further than our Paint Services team, they’re paint experts who will get your home painted the way it should be!

Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams

Up first is Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams. They suggest you tap into nature with a hue whose warmth and comfort breathe down-to-earth tranquility. Urbane Bronze captures that simple sophistication every space is searching for.

Urbane Bronze’s hue of natural simplicity and nature-inspired energy cultivates a sense of calm from the ground up which is so important as our homes have become the backdrop to our lives.

This color will look beautiful on walls, cabinets, exteriors, window trim, or just about anything else you’d paint.

Transcend, Misty Aqua, and Big Cypress by PPG

PPG introduced their 2021 palette which includes 3 different colors while they acknowledge we live in an era where normal is no longer and mental and physical well-being has become more important than ever.

“With the world sheltering in place for the better half of the year, we have begun to crave human connection and embrace simple activities, including walking, hiking, baking, and gardening,” said

Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager, architectural and industrial coatings. “This organic and hopeful palette represents what we have been longing for after decades of overstimulation and overconsumption – simplicity and restfulness.”

Transcend, a mid-tone oatmeal-colored hue that draws on earthy influences and nostalgia grounds the palette. The antidote to an era of cool grays, this cozy neutral emulates the feeling of a warm latte on a cool morning or warm sand on a sunny summer day.

Big Cypress, a shaded ginger with persimmon undertones, is the equivalent of a big, comforting hug for your home.

Misty Aqua, a watercolor cerulean blue, provides an unexpected pairing of freshness against the other warm, earthy tones.

These 3 organic and hopeful colors can be paired together using the 60-30-10 design rule. They pair well with natural hues of greens, blondes, or brown-tones woods. Layering textures will allow you to make a space for comfort and relief in your home.

Aegean Teal by Benjamin Moore

In addition to their Aegean Teal, their color of the year, Benjamin Moore introduced an entire Color Trends palette. The goal of their palette is to allow you to take a moment to reflect and reset. The 12 palette hues are made to help nourish the spirit with comforting, sunbaked shades making your home feel even more like home.

Aegean Teal itself is intriguing, balanced, and deeply soothing. It’s a beautiful balanced blue-green with a touch of grey. It’s not too cool, it’s not too warm. It’s just the perfect balanced mid-tone and we haven’t celebrated mid-tones for a while.

Aegean Teal is a beautiful hue on cabinetry, walls, or doors. Its balanced tone mixes beautifully with natural tones and creamy whites.

2021 Colour Trends by Farrow & Ball

Rather than pick one color or even one palette Farrow & Ball’s Colour Curator Joa Studholme has shared four moods to define homes in the year to come and colors to help achieve them

Rich and Warm Hues

“In 2021 we have moved away from dark charcoals and towards the warmer tones of nature, like Deep Reddish Brown, Tanner’s Brown, and Preference Red which are both luxurious and soothing. All three of these chocolatey tones look particularly good used on shelving – try Modern Eggshell for a hard-wearing finish.”

Natural Greens

“Bringing the elements of the natural world into our interiors encourages personal growth as well as evoking a feeling of calm,” says Joa. “All greens reinforce our connection to nature, but these three shades are particularly grounding, making them the perfect welcoming start to a journey through your home.”

These calming and welcoming attributes make Sap Green, Green Smoke, and Treron particularly suited to hallways, as Joa attests.

Earth Colours

Like other brands, there is a focus on Earth colours. These tones offer warmer hues for your home including the understated Jitney. A slightly bolder tone but still neutral, Dead Salmon and finally India Yellow offering slightly moodier vibes.

Clean and Timeless Blues

“The blues best suited to anchoring our homes in 2021 are cleaner tones like lively Pitch Blue, fresh Ultra Marine Blue, and the darker, inkier shades of Stiffkey Blue and Scotch Blue,” says Joa. “These uncomplicated shades feel familiar, and so they have a soothing effect in the home despite their cooler undertones.”
