Handyman Tips When Replacing Your Home’s Windows
Our recent “Out in the Field With Handyman” post, and the warmer weather has our Handyman thinking about windows. Are you thinking about replacing your old ones? There are several things to keep in mind when you are buying new windows:
- What is the exterior/interior material going to be? Are you wanting to go with a metal clad, fiberglass, wood, or vinyl window? Different homes, personal tastes and budgets may drive the material decision.
- What manufacturer’s windows do you want to purchase? There are many different window manufacturers out there. Staying with a known brand of windows (Marvin/Integrity, Pella, Anderson, etc.) gives you the comfort of knowing you have a long standing window manufacturer around to support the product years after its been installed.
- Keep in mind different window manufacturers have different features and benefits to their different window options and may only allow certain grilling types and patterns, finishes, hardware, etc. in certain lines of windows.
- Go with a quality installation. Many times we see issues with windows that stem from faulty installation rather than faulty manufacturing. Making sure you’re windows are properly installed can save you thousands in the long run!
Happy Spring, it’s the season of window and door replacement!
