West 84th Terrace - Lenexa Main Floor Refresh

Project by Brenda Axman

Lenexa Kitchen Refresh & Main Floor Update

This Lenexa home didn’t need a full overhaul to feel new again. The goal was to refresh the kitchen while building on the layout that already worked.

The existing kitchen was functional, but the cabinetry and finishes were beginning to feel dated. Brenda Axman helped our clients put a plan together to give their home a fresh look with a few features for enhanced functionality. By introducing new upper cabinets, refacing the existing lower cabinets, and adding a custom island, the space now feels brighter and more organized.

To create continuity across the main floor, the updates extended beyond the kitchen to include the laundry room, living room built-ins, and dining room buffet. Together, these changes brought a fresh look and improved functionality to the entire level of the home.

Before the Main Floor Refresh

Before the refresh, the kitchen and surrounding main floor spaces were functional but beginning to feel dated. The wedge island with two tier countertop wasn't functioning well for our clients and they were ready for a larger vent above their cooktop rather than a microwave.

Rather than starting from scratch, our goal was to refresh the kitchen while improving the surrounding spaces. Strategic updates to cabinetry, a new island, and coordinated changes throughout the main floor helped transform the space while keeping the home's original layout intact.

A Brighter, More Functional Kitchen

The kitchen became the centerpiece of this renovation. New upper cabinetry gave the kitchen a modern update while improving storage and creating a clean, cohesive look throughout the room.

Rather than replacing everything, the existing lower cabinets were refaced and painted, allowing the homeowners to achieve an updated kitchen while maintaining parts of the original structure.

The new island provides better storage and plenty of new work spacce. It also houses a drawer microwave. The quartz countertop offers durability for everyday use while giving the kitchen a crisp, polished finish.

Relocating the microwave allowed us to install a hood vent which then required additional tile. Rather than replacing all of the backsplash Brenda recommended a they use a different but complimentary tile to create a feature.

Main Floor Updates Beyond the Kitchen

While the kitchen was the primary focus, several additional spaces were refreshed to ensure the entire main floor felt cohesive.

The laundry room was updated to improve organization and usability, making it easier to manage daily household tasks. In the living room, the built-ins were reconfigured and repainted, helping the room feel lighter and more connected to the updated kitchen.

The dining room buffet was also refaced and painted to match the refreshed cabinetry throughout the main level, tying the spaces together visually.

These updates helped create a unified look across the main floor while maintaining the character of the home.

A Fresh Look Without a Full Gut Renovation

This project shows how thoughtful updates can completely change how a space looks and functions. By combining new cabinetry, strategic refacing, and coordinated updates throughout the main floor, this Lenexa home now feels brighter, more welcoming, and ready for years of everyday living.
