We have been given the opportunity to share in our client’s vision and desire for this upcoming project.
The current home has a large screen porch under the main roofline of the home. A portion of this screen porch was previously remodeled, enclosing a section of the porch to interior living space.
With a desire to convert the remainder of the screen porch to finished interior living space, a new exterior covered entertainment area needed to be created.

Rita shared her inspiration picture of an exposed timber framed structure reminiscent of what might be seen in the hillside of an old Italian vineyard. The current porch area will be a solarium of wall-to-wall glass to view to an beyond the pergola to the beautiful garden space beyond.

Week 1:

The arbor structure currently is 25’ x 13’ and 9’ high in a traditional slatted room. The lower columns and perimeter will remain and a new timber framed roof structure will be constructed above. As planning and design began, we determined that supporting piers would need to be installed under the current posts for the increased weight, currently sitting directly on the slab.
To accomplish this, a temporary structure is built to support the perimeter beam and the supporting legs are removed to dig and pour the piers. These piers are 24” x 23” x 36” deep. The concrete is precision cut to be infilled on completion with a brick pattern flush with the existing slab. The pier has a raised pediment with an attachment bracket that is poured into the concrete to receive the post placement.
