  • 8 Kitchen Remodel Design Trends for 2024: Perfectly Pairing Design and Functionality

Last updated on February 15, 2024

Kitchens are often considered the heart of a home for a good reason. They are the room that brings together friends and family to make lasting memories. And a sanctuary for preparing and unwinding from the day. When looking at 2024 kitchen trends, we love that many of the kitchen remodel trends center on elevating the functionality of the space—making your day-to-day easier.  In a way that almost feels as if your kitchen is working for you. Plus, we are loving the addition of the small details that make your home feel uniquely just like you.

When thinking about your 2024 kitchen remodel project, be sure to think about these top 8 trends!

Trend 1: Kitchen Seating with Conversational Islands (Multi-Sided)

While kitchen islands have been in vogue for some time, a fun new trend we are seeing is multisided seating around the island. Not only does this make a space feel warmer and more welcoming, but there is plenty of seating for conversation while whipping up a scrumptious meal or beverage.

Trend 2: Blend of Materials

While kitchens with uniform materials (cabinet color, fixtures, etc.) are still stunning, we adore how mixing materials creates an opportunity for a kitchen that is distinctly yours. This trend allows you to create pops of color and/or subtle touches that stand out from the norm to create a haven that inspires your latest cooking adventure, instills a sense of serenity, or a combination of the two.

Notice how the mixture of painted cabinets paired with the wood hood vent gives this kitchen a true sense of warmth. The mixing of matte black plumbing fixtures and gold light fixture tones keeps visual interest while providing touches of character.

Trend 3: Stained Wood Cabinets

A trend that we’ve seen time and time again in our 40+ years of kitchen remodeling experience is stained kitchen cabinets. And it’s back in the limelight for 2024. Not only do stained kitchen cabinets appeal to those looking for a more natural aesthetic, they provide an overall feeling of warmth, richness, and character that is timeless.

Trend 4: Colored Tile

While white was a main staple for many kitchen remodels over the last decade, 2024 invites color back into the kitchen. People are excited for colors that represent how they want to feel and reflect their own design preferences. Pops of colors with tile add visual interest in a way that is tastefully classic—and something we are excited about doing more of in 2024!

Trend 5: Dedicated Beverage Stations and Coffee Bars

If you saw one of our latest posts, 5 Stunning Custom Coffee and Cocktail Bars, you know that home bars are definitely a home remodel project that is picking up steam! But if space for a home bar is out of the question, we love dedicated beverage stations in kitchens. While not quite a full home bar, these stations still give the functionality of having everything you need within arms reach to whip up your favorite latte.

Trend 6: Smart Storage

Do you know what makes a beautiful kitchen even better? One that has a dedicated spot for all of your kitchen dishes, appliances, and more. One of the things that we love about designing kitchens is making them perfectly functional for you and your lifestyle. Will your cabinets hold all your dishes? Is there a way to easily store and use (hello outlets!) your appliances? Are your most used items within arm's reach? What is the workflow of the space? Smart storage solutions make this functionality a dream. We are seeing easy-access drawer storage (vs. cabinets), butler pantries, and appliance garages make their way to the top of the 2024 top design trends.

Trend 7: Focus on Hood Vents

We’ve seen hood vents featured in kitchens, metal-covered or covered to blend in with cabinetry. Looking into next year, hood vents are getting more customized designs to act as centerpieces in kitchens. As seen in this stunning kitchen remodel, the hood vent adds a dimension that accentuates the wood ceiling while adding texture to its textured surface. We are also seeing hood vents wrapped in natural materials and wood fluting. Another design trend for hood vents is range alcoves—which bring the extra something to a kitchen’s design. We’re currently working on two kitchen remodels with range alcoves and can’t wait to share them once they’re finished!

Trend 8: Lived & Loved Kitchen Style

Coming in at number 8 is incorporating old elements, vintage artwork, and handmade titles into your kitchen design. These elements aren’t mass produced and therefore give your kitchen that special, uniquely you feel. In addition, these timeless pieces and the mixture of old and new add a unique depth to a space that can’t be replicated.

This kitchen remodel perfectly blends old and new with vintage pieces thoughtfully displayed on wood shelving, which pops with the blue cabinets.

We love how these trends perfectly pair design with functionality—which is always something our team of designers and remodelers consider for our clients. We can’t wait to see how the kitchen remodels in 2024 take advantage of these trends to create that special feeling of home designed distinctly for you!
