  • A Stunning Kansas City Home Renovation with Southern Flair – Primary Suite

Last updated on September 22, 2023

This is the second post about this Kansas City home renovation. Just in case you missed the first post, we discussed the main floor renovation. With Louisiana roots, the homeowner’s have an astute sense of style with Southern flair and their home reflects it throughout. The young family moved into the beautiful house near Loose Park in 2016 and quickly found the layout wasn’t suiting their lifestyle. They realized they needed to re-do the main floor layout and their primarysuite needed an update as well.

They looked to Schloegel for help with their project. Ensuring their project was completed on time was a must! The homeowners planned to move out for the summer months and move back into their newly remodeled home at the start of a new school year. They knew Schloegel’s design-build process was best suited to get their project done, as they would be able to go through the process and have the major decisions made prior to construction and receive consistent communication throughout the process. The homeowners had the opportunity to work with designer Donna Kirsopp on their home renovation.

The Existing Layout

The primarysuite was a point of contention. The closet was too small while the bedroom was very large. Part of the bedroom had become a closet storage area.

The bathroom was also small with a single vanity and small shower. Again the homeowners knew they had the space to make it more but needed help finding the right layout.

A New Layout

Rather than closing off part of their spacious bedroom to create a larger closet, the homeowners opted to create an open boutique style closet leaving the grand feel of the bedroom. The new layout utilized the previous closet space to create a larger primarybathroom complete with double vanities and a luxurious shower.

A Beautiful primarySuite

Imagine selecting your clothes every day from a beautiful boutique, these homeowners actually get to do it! What once was an awkward part of their bedroom is now a beautiful open closet. The island substitutes the need for a dresser and a built-in bench is a perfect spot for putting on socks and shoes. The light fixtures add glamour without being over the top.

The primarybathroom was tight and while it was neutral it didn’t quite fit the homeowner’s taste. Donna designed a primarybathroom with his and hers vanities. The black vanities are adorned with round leather strap mirrors, something a little unexpected.

A large beautiful shower replaced the previous cramped one. Classic subway tile, a chevron marble floor, and custom glass doors make showering a luxury rather than a chore. Finally, the new bathroom has its own water closet.

The primarysuite turned out beautiful and the homeowners are thrilled! It is no longer just a room to sleep and store clothes in but a luxury retreat.
