Construction has begun at the Hinrichs’s residence and we are getting excited to see the project completed! We introduced you to Mickey in December. Mickey was born with multiple genetic mutations. He has a diagnosis of Phelan McDermid Syndrome, along with CP, autism, global hypotonia, Epilepsy, and developmental delay. Today, at 9 years old, Mickey loves to crawl and play but requires assistance in most of his daily needs. We can’t wait to create a new bathroom for Mickey so he’ll be able to enjoy his favorite time of the day, bathtime, even more! Read more about Mickey.
Our Wonder team of Designer Kelly Summers, Project Manager Don Richeson, and Lead Carpenter Steve Beck have been hard at work creating a new design that fits the Hinrichs’s needs and getting construction started. Also a HUGE thanks to our amazing Sub-Contractors and Vendors for donating time and materials to help with the Hinrich’s bathroom!

The Old Bathrooms
Yes, plural, bathrooms. In order to give Mickey and his mother, Erika, the room they need in the bathroom we decided to convert two bathrooms that were next to each other into one. One bathroom was in the primary bedroom and the other was their hall bathroom. Both bathrooms were quite small and didn’t allow any space for mobility. The bathrooms were both quite dated and previous plumbing issues left the tile in disrepair.
The Plan
First up is taking down the wall between the two bathrooms and completely demolishing both bathrooms. This provides space for both a zero-entry shower and a large tub. The tub will have a whirlpool system so Mickey can enjoy his favorite time of day even more! The large zero-entry shower will fulfill the entire family’s needs and also will accommodate future needs Mickey may have. A large amount of space in front of the tub will finally allow space to get Mickey ready in the bathroom instead of taking him down the hall. It’s the perfect plan to suit the family’s needs now and into the future.
Kelly also helped Mickey’s parents select some amazing fixtures, tiles, and cabinetry. With the whirlpool tub, large shower, and serene color palette the family will feel as though they’ve stepped into a 5-star spa each and every day!
Construction
Last week Steve demolished everything in the two bathrooms and took down the wall. Jason Wright Electric did the electrical rough-in and Air Care Heating and Cooling performed HVAC work. Vaught Roofing worked on the roof to accommodate the updates.
This week Steve is worked on framing while the Inception guys are completed the plumbing rough-in. With the electrical and plumbing rough-ins complete, Hayes Insulation installs the insulation and the Lee Drywall and Plaster team will start to hang the drywall.
We can’t wait to share Mickey’s completed bathroom in March! Stay tuned to see it!
