This Kansas City home is loaded with fun personality, but the kitchen was in need of a refresh.
The Space Before
Originally, this kitchen had a combination of natural stone backsplash in a sand color and dark gray granite countertops. This pairing was a bit busy and overloaded with texture. The wall color was also contributing to a washing out of all the accents this client was trying to showcase. We were set to the task of providing a cleaner look to both the kitchen and a small dining nook.
The Space After
In the initial design phase, these clients were considering remnant pieces for their countertops, but this Silestone quartz in Charcoal Soapstone (a recent Schloegel favorite!) quickly won them over. For the backsplash, our client chose a 3×6” white tile in a subway pattern with a charcoal grout that perfectly matches the new countertops. The original cabinetry, flooring, and appliances remained. This new combination is much more cohesive and complements the rest of the home beautifully.
We were ready to exercise our color theory with this cooler, less saturated paint color. We love how this client’s enthusiasm for yellow is now the star of this space!
This nook with the original wall color and new countertops now serves as a nice transitional space.
