  • Oh, What a Night – 2022 REMY Awards!

Last updated on March 7, 2023

Last Thursday was the annual Kansas City NARI REMY (Remodel of the Year) awards. As Charlie Schloegel fondly calls them, The Superbowl of Kansas City Remodeling. This year was truly remarkable, and we are honored and humbled to have received all 4 Best of Show Awards. A feat that has never before been achieved. A special thank you to our amazing clients, trade partners, and vendors. We literally could not achieve these awards without each of you! With no further ado, here are the winners!

Farmhouse Powder Bathroom

Residential Bath Under $25,000 Gold & All Star REMY – BEST OF SHOW

Designer: Lindsay Brungardt | Project Lead: Trever Gariety | Project Director: Andy Gower & Don Richeson

As a busy family of five, our clients were ready to make their homes more functional for their lifestyles. What they needed was a powder bathroom on their main floor. Staying true to their homes farmhouse style, we applied elements throughout their home, and the powder bathroom was no exception. The bathroom rocks that look with its warm wood vanity top, floating shelves, shiplap backsplash, and matte black fixtures.

High Style with Touches From New Mexico

Residential Kitchen $60,001 to $100,000 Gold & All Star REMY – BEST OF SHOW

Designer: Kelly Summers | Project Lead: Montana Ralstin | Project Director: Kirk Thomas

Our client was living in New Mexico and relocated to Kansas City. They decided on this fabulous 1913 home with tons of character but knew they wanted to make some significant changes in the kitchen to make it their own. The existing kitchen had been remodeled in the early 2000s but didn’t fit the home’s aesthetic and felt dark. The new kitchen features the beautiful Skara Brae quartz flowing into its impressive three windows. The window wall is covered from cabinet to crown in a hand-crafted gray subway tile with rich, warm walnut floating shelves. A custom range hood sits above the striking Fisher & Paykel stainless steel gas range, backed by a pleasant coordinating tile in a herringbone pattern. The fridge, microwave, and dishwasher drawers sport the same stainless finish, and the metallic gray apron sink ties the bottom cabinets into the tile backsplash.

European Farmhouse Dream Kitchen

Residential Kitchen Over $150,000 Gold & All Star REMY – BEST OF SHOW

Designer: Nina Schmidt | Project Lead: Shannon Washam | Project Manager: Jeff Penrose

After exploring options for a simple “refresh” with new countertops and refinished cabinets, our client and designer concluded that a visual makeover wouldn’t adequately address our client’s concerns. The kitchen also lacked a focal point; the eye was either drawn to a dark corner cabinet or out of the room through a window. Our designer had a host of ideas to improve the flow and storage of the kitchen, and the client was ready for some major changes. By the end of the project, we would change the location of all the appliances, double the seating of the island, and completely reinvent the pantry. The new cabinetry is full of strategically-placed inserts that put kitchenware within reach for every task. White hard surfaces balanced with warm wood tones create an inviting European farmhouse feel. Our clients were so pleased with the result that we are already under construction on the rest of the main floor!

A Bespoke & Spacious Kitchen

Residential Addition Over $250,000 Gold & All Star REMY – BEST OF SHOW

Designer: Nina Schmidt | Project Leads: Ryan Waters & Joe Meagher | Project Directors: Andy Gower & Don Richeson

Our clients had dreamed of a larger kitchen when they purchased their ranch home a decade before. With appliances failing, cabinets breaking, and the counter cracked they knew the time had come. Our team worked with them to create an addition giving them plenty of space, storage, and counter surface. The addition also included a mudroom with additional storage.

A Contemporary Escape

Basement $100,000 to $250,000 Gold & All Star REMY

Designers: Donna Kirsopp & Kenny Choikhit | Project Manager: Shannon Washam | Project Director: Jeff Penrose

Basement remodels can be arduous but not this one! When we met with our clients at their home, we instantly knew it would be good, really good. They live in a contemporary-style home inside and out and wanted this look carried into the basement. Their goal – for their basement to have a home theater and full bar. As an extremely busy family, they needed a place to escape and hang out.  The result is a stunning contemporary basement. Our clients have a place to mix cocktails, play poker while watching the big game, or have a family movie night.

Stunning Bathroom Remodel

Designs and Plans – No Price Range Gold & All Star REMY

Designers: Donna Kirsopp & Kenny Choikhit | Design & Plans: Leslie Hatfield, Katy Culwell, & Hilary Bybee | Project Manager: Doug Schauerman | Project Director: Jeff Penrose

Our clients had just moved into this charming new home. It offered nearly everything they wanted except for the primary suite. They contacted us to help upgrade their primary suite. What was an awkward space is now a gorgeous “spa-like” bathroom with high-end finishes. The double shower became the highlight using the dormer and skylights to create a ‘wow’ factor.

Forever Home Rejuvenated

Entire House $250,000 to $500,000 Gold & All Star REMY

Designer: Megan Bringman | Project Manager: Stephen LaGue | Project Director: Jeff Penrose

Our clients had lived in their home for about seven years before contacting us. They loved their neighborhood and were ready to invest in their home to make it their forever home. We presented several plans to our clients, who ultimately decided on the small addition behind the garage and creating more defined spaces in the living and dining rooms. We completely reinvented the kitchen by making a small addition, removing the dry bar, and adding a support beam to remove the dreaded column. Our clients love their updated home. They have made this beautiful house their forever home, a space for entertaining and function.

Georgian Colonial Revival

Entire House Over $1,000,000 Gold & All Star REMY

Designer: Donna Kirsopp

Our clients had recently purchased this stunning home and looked to us to help make it their own. The remodel included the primary suite, hallway, guest suite, kitchen, mudroom, laundry room, powder bathroom, entry, stairs, wine room, hearth room, family room addition, floors throughout, and windows replacements as required on the main and second floor, pantry, laundry room, powder bathroom x 2, kitchen, hearth room, and wine room. The final phase was the family room addition. The project took two years to complete, and the result is, simply put, exquisite. Our homeowners love it! They love having the space to sprawl out, customizations for their lifestyle, and the overall look.

Contemporary Rustic Coastal Bathroom

Residential Bath $75,001 to $100,000 Gold & All Star REMY

Designer: Kelly Summers | Project Director: Don Richeson

When a previous client contacted us wanting to update their primary suite, we knew it would be good! She was ready to brighten up their bedroom, ditch the carpet in the bath, and give the entire suite a contemporary, coastal feel. The bathroom layout remained the same. After removing a large soffit, it felt much larger. Frameless cabinets in a natural rustic are accented with ocean gloss-colored tiles striking the perfect balance of contemporary and coastal. New flooring, paint, and a fireplace update drastically changed the bedroom.

Whiskey Up

Residential Interior Element $30,000 and Over Gold & All Star REMY

Designers: Donna Kirsopp & Kenny Choikhit | Project Director: Don Richeson

Friends, football, and bourbon are the perfect mix.  Our client, a collector of rare and hard-to-get bourbon and Packer’s memorabilia, had collected all the pewter caps from Blantons bourbon bottles and mounted them on a whiskey barrel stave.  This is the crown jewel of the display.  Base cabinetry in Sapele with Titanium granite was accented with open shelving above in an Ebony veneer.  The backdrop to the shelves is a rustic wood wallcovering.  LED ribbon lighting sits at the perimeter and behind the floating shelving washing the wall and accenting the warm colors of the bourbon.

Plenty of Space to Bake

Residential Kitchen $100,001 to $150,000 Gold & All Star REMY

Designer: Gayle Jagoda | Project Director: Andy Gower

The goal for this kitchen was not to demonstrate the cutting edge of design but to aesthetically suit the rest of the house, stand as a beautiful space on its own, and offer as much counter space as possible. Our responsive designer and excellent craftspeople helped our clients turn their kitchen into exactly what they were looking for. With warm woods, crisp whites, and matte blacks, we created an inviting space with long stretches of countertop and an island sufficient for our client to teach pie-making to a class of over ten people.

Overly Ornate to Perfectly Balanced

Residential Kitchen $30,000 to $60,000 Silver REMY

Designer: Lindsay Brungardt | Project Director: Don Richeson

Often when we think of remodeling a kitchen, we imagine a full gut job but sometimes, when something is already good, you don’t rip it out; you improve it. That was the case with this project. Our clients had lived in this stunning Tudor-style home for a decade and were ready to make some updates. Our design focused on repainting the cabinetry, installing new countertops and a backsplash, and giving the kitchen a fresh look. In our plan, our clients would have a new sink, faucets, cabinet hardware, and pendant lights. We planned to reset all of their existing appliances. The kitchen turned out beautiful! It’s a wonderful balance of modern and traditional. Our clients are thrilled with it. They love how bright it is and that they could reuse the majority of what they already had.

A Grown-Up Treehouse
Residential Landscape Design/ Outdoor Living $100,000 to $250,000 Silver&  All Star
REMY

Designer: Troy Stout | Project Lead: Montana Ralstin | Project Director: Kirk Thomas

Our clients knew it was time for a deck update, and they already had an excellent idea of what they wanted. Their deck was undersized and overaged. They hoped to have a deck that was set out amongst the trees. They wanted it to be safer, larger, and artfully put together. In addition to a safe, larger deck, they also wanted to extend its usability during the change of seasons. The new deck extended the footprint and with its earthy textures and low-maintenance materials, we know our clients will be enjoying their grown-up treehouse for many years to come and they love it already!

We’re so proud of our team and all their hard work, creativity, and love of what they do. We’ll share more details on many of these REMY winning projects throughout the year!
