We get pretty excited when one of our team members becomes certified. It means they’ve committed to their career in remodeling. They have put forward time and effort to become an expert. In fact, Schloegel Design Remodel carries 18 NARI Certifications, placing us 2nd for most certifications held in the U.S. So we are beyond proud to announce that Katy Culwell, a Drafter on the Schloegel team, just became a Universal Design Certified Professional (UDCP). Universal Design is becoming more important than ever as homeowners plan to stay in their homes as long as they can. Designing rooms/homes according to these universal guidelines allow them to do this.
What is a Universal Design Certified Professional?
- NARI Universal Design Certified Professionals (UDCP) are recognized as experienced remodelers, skilled in all aspects of universal design and remodeling.
- The UDCP Program addresses the key concepts of Universal Design as applied to residential remodeling:
- Conducting client needs assessments
- Universal design applications used in residential remodeling
- Construction techniques used to implement universal design to a remodeling project
- Plumbing and electrical systems unique to universal design
- Differences between model building codes and ones described in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
In order to become a UDCP an individual must have:
- Minimum of two (2) years continuous experience in the remodeling industry
- Minimum of 8 hours of universal design remodeling/building-related education or attendance of NARI’s Universal Design Certified Professional online preparatory course.
Katy Culwell
Katy started at Schloegel as an intern in Drafting and Design and joined as a full-time team member right after graduation. She was quite ambitious in her education and received her Associate of Applied Science in Interior Design, Interior Design: Kitchen and Bath, and Interior Design: Market and Management as well as Certifications in Computer Aided Drafting, Interior Staging, and Interior Sales.
