Last updated on August 20, 2026

Lake of the Ozarks handyman services can be a great solution for smaller home updates, like flooring replacement, painting and finish work. For this Gravois Mills project, the Schloegel handyman team refreshed a lower level with new flooring, baseboards and paint, giving the space a clean, updated look without a major remodel.

For a lake home, those updates can make a big difference. Homeowners want spaces that look good, hold up to everyday use and are easy to maintain. With the help of Schloegel’s Lake of the Ozarks handyman services, this project came together with new flooring, updated trim, fresh paint and a clean, finished result.

A Lake of the Ozarks handyman can handle many flooring-related home improvement projects. Depending on the scope, services can include flooring replacement, baseboard installation, painting, drywall repairs, trim work and other finishing details. For larger renovations or projects involving significant layout or structural changes, a design-build remodeling team may be a better fit.

A Fresh Start for This Gravois Mills Lower Level

The existing lower-level flooring was dated and ready for an update. Rather than taking on a full renovation, the homeowners focused on a few targeted improvements that would make the space feel more finished.

The homeowner supplied the new flooring material, and the Schloegel handyman team installed it directly over the existing linoleum. The new flooring was continued into the adjoining lower-level space, including a small missing section near the stair landing.

The team also worked carefully around the existing features and transitions while protecting the carpet along the path to the work area.

The result? A more cohesive floor that immediately helped the lower level feel cleaner and more current.

Replacing the Dated Flooring: Installing New Flooring Over Existing Flooring

Can you install new flooring over existing flooring? Sometimes.

For this Gravois Mills home, the existing linoleum provided a suitable surface for the new flooring. However, whether new flooring can be installed over an existing floor depends on the condition and type of the existing material, the new flooring product and its installation requirements.

For this project, the flooring work included:

  • Installing the new flooring over the existing linoleum
  • Continuing the flooring into the adjoining lower-level space
  • Filling in a small missing section near the stair landing
  • Protecting the existing carpet along the path to the work area
  • Working around existing features and transitions

Finishing the Space with New Baseboards and Paint

New flooring was only part of the update.

The team installed approximately 55 linear feet of 4½-inch primed baseboard to match the existing trim.

Additional baseboard was installed in the bathroom, and smaller pieces were used as a toe kick for the lower-level kitchen cabinets.

The walls and wainscoting on the lower-level kitchen side were also painted Benjamin Moore White Dove in an eggshell sheen. The baseboards were finished in White Dove with a satin sheen.

These details may seem small, but they are what make a flooring update feel complete.

A Clean, Efficient Lake of the Ozarks Handyman Services Project

The project was completed in a week, with work taking place Monday through Friday.

Throughout the project, the team focused not only on the finished product but also on keeping the process clean and organized. Furniture was moved out of the work area, floor protection was installed from the front door to the lower stair landing, and debris was hauled away as work progressed.

Before wrapping up, the team completed a final walkthrough with the homeowner, addressed punch-list items and cleaned the work areas.

For homeowners at the Lake of the Ozarks, that matters. A handyman project should improve your home without creating another project for you to manage.

Why Small Updates Matter in a Lake Home

Not every home improvement project needs to be large-scale to make a difference.

New flooring, fresh paint and updated trim can make an everyday space feel cleaner, brighter and more current. And for a lake home, practical finishes that can stand up to everyday use are especially important.

Whether you are preparing your home for another busy lake season or simply working through a growing list of projects, small updates can make your home easier to enjoy.

Schloegel’s Lake of the Ozarks handyman team can help with projects ranging from flooring and painting to drywall repairs, trim, carpentry and other home repairs.

Whether you have a growing home maintenance list, a repair that has been sitting on your to-do list, or a small improvement you've been meaning to make, Lake of the Ozarks handyman services can help get the job done. Our team can handle individual repairs as well as multiple projects that need to be completed around the home.

When should I hire a handyman instead of tackling a home repair myself?

A handyman can be a good choice when a project requires specialized tools or experience, involves several types of work or when your home repair list has simply grown too long. Having one experienced team handle several related projects can save homeowners time and reduce the stress of coordinating multiple contractors. If you're looking for help with a larger scale project, our design-build remodeling team can do anything from kitchen remodels to multiple story home additions

How Do I Know If I Need a Handyman, General Contractor, or Design-Build Remodeler?

The right professional depends on the size, complexity, and scope of your home improvement project. A handyman is often a great fit for individual repairs, maintenance, installations, and smaller updates. A general contractor may be appropriate when you already have completed plans and primarily need someone to manage construction. For larger or more complex remodeling projects, a design-build remodeler like Schloegel can provide both design and construction services through one team!

A handyman may be the right choice if you:

  • Have a list of smaller home repairs or maintenance projects
  • Need drywall, flooring, trim, painting, or other finish repairs
  • Need doors or windows repaired or replaced
  • Want to install shelving, hardware, light fixtures, or other updates
  • Need exterior repairs such as wood rot, siding, or trim work
  • Want custom carpentry or built-in storage
  • Need accessibility or aging-in-place updates
  • Have several smaller projects you would like to tackle at once
  • Don't need extensive design, architectural planning, or structural changes

A general contractor may be the right choice if you:

  • Already have complete construction or architectural plans
  • Have finalized your materials and specifications
  • Already work with an architect or independent designer
  • Primarily need someone to manage the construction
  • Are comfortable coordinating separate professionals and contracts
  • Have a clearly defined project scope with limited design needs

A design-build remodeler may be the right choice if you:

  • Are planning a kitchen, bathroom, addition, or whole-home remodel
  • Need help determining what is possible in your home
  • Want to change the layout or make structural changes
  • Need design guidance and construction expertise together
  • Want to develop your budget alongside the design
  • Need help selecting materials, finishes, fixtures, and other products
  • Want one company to coordinate design, construction, permits, and project management
  • Prefer having one team guide the project from the initial ideas through construction
  • Are remodeling multiple rooms or planning a larger, more complex renovation

Start by considering the scope of the project. If you have a handful of repairs or smaller improvements, a handyman may be the best fit. If you are planning a larger renovation that involves layout changes, design decisions, structural work, or multiple phases of construction, a design-build remodeler may be better suited to the project.
