When our long-time clients decided they couldn’t put off their Sunrise Beach Lake home deck updates any longer they knew who they could rely on to get the project done right and on time. We were excited to work on another project at the Lake of the Ozarks and a few members of our Handyman Services team were excited to make the trip.
The Old Deck
Portions of the old deck were rotted including the portions of the staircase. The old boards were weathered and warped. The good news was we could keep most of the original framing, joists, and rim joists. We also planned to reinstall the existing railings.

Demo
Emily Robbins, Mark Garies, Lester Withers, and Casey Lynch headed down to the lake to get the project going. Nothing like seeing a fleet of Schloegel vehicles in route.

During the demo we found that the deck’s triple joists have double hangers with the third joist sistered to it, this led to large gaps and separation between joists over time. We would replace hangers with triples and then fasten them with staggered 4 1/2” timber locks.
A little, or a lot, of rain didn’t stop our team from getting to work.

Unfortunately, our early assessment was correct, and the stairs and stair landing would need to be completely replaced. It was pulling apart and was no longer safe.

Putting the deck back together
First, we built new piers to house the eight new treated columns. The team installed temporary columns to maintain the deck’s support. Then they cleaned up the existing joists, clamped them, and installed new hangers.

Following that they installed new rim around the deck, re-framed the small portion of deck by the stairs, built new stairs and started installing the treated cedar decking.

With the deck portion done Emily, Mark, Casey, and Lester got to work putting everything back together. They installed the railing and railing columns, ran all new electrical, and fixed the pavers around the new post piers. They then addressed the wood rot round the sliding door by installing new trim legs. This was a long day for the team as they worked well into night to get it all wrapped up on time.

A deck masterpiece

The team delivered in a big way! The remodeled deck looks stunning and is the absolute perfect spot for meals and relaxing while watching all the Lake of the Ozarks activity. The transformation of the deck at Sunrise Beach has truly exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship and dedication of Emily, Mark, Lester, and Casey on our Handyman Services team are evident in every detail.

This beautiful new space not only enhances the home’s aesthetic appeal but also provides a serene and enjoyable environment for dining, unwinding, and soaking in the vibrant lake views. Our clients couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome and look forward to many cherished moments on their stunning new deck.
