A Lasting Vision: Timeless Homes, Built for Living
If you've been a supporter for a while, you know the story. Schloegel Design Remodel began in 1980 when Jake Schloegel spent $300 to purchase a contracting company, which came with a wooden box and two old stepladders. Having grown up in Midtown Kansas City with eight siblings, Jake learned early on that houses should evolve to support the way people live. He recognized the limitations of the traditional model that separated design and build, leading him to create a full-service company.
Today, the company is jointly owned by Chris Peterson, who started as a carpenter 29 years ago, and Jake’s youngest son, Charlie Schloegel, carrying forward Jake’s original vision. The team’s philosophy is that remodeling should be seamless, client-focused, and always shaped by the way people live.
- Our Design Philosophy: Rather than pursuing a signature style, our team tailors each project to reflect the homeowner’s personality and way of life.
- Design Director Megan Bringman explains: “For us, there is no single style. It’s always about what speaks to the client, from a travel memento to a detail from their home’s history,”.
The Cambria Connection: Versatility, Support, and Made in America
Our team has used Cambria natural quartz surfaces for years and displays them in our showroom so clients can experience the scale, movement, and detail up close.
- Key Advantage: Versatility: For our design team, the greatest advantage of Cambria is its versatility. As Design Director Megan Bringman notes, "Cambria offers so many options—polished or matte, bold or subtle—that I can always find the right fit for a client,”.
- Key Advantage: Support: We deeply value the support from our Cambria representatives, who are always available when we need them, which is reassuring for our clients.
- Key Advantage: American Made: The product is American made, which is an equally important factor to Schloegel Design Remodel and our clients.
Cambria showcased three of our standout projects.
Project Spotlight 1: The Sleek Mid-Century
- The Project: We transformed a dated kitchen in a Prairie Village mid-century home into a sleek, masculine space tailored to the owner’s lifestyle.
- The Stone: The design prominently features Cambria Black™ on the countertops, peninsula, and backsplash.
- The Result: Paired with matte black and walnut cabinetry, the striking simplicity and clean lines make the space feel like "a work of art".
- Designed by Lindsay Brungardt and project overseen by Jeff Penrose.

Project Spotlight 2: The Cohesive California Coastal
- The Project: This was a full-home renovation following a water leak in Mission Hills. We crafted a cohesive space that reflects the client’s style and personal art collection.
- The Stone: Cambria makes appearances throughout the home, creating a harmonious blend of design and lifestyle:
- Kitchen: Inverness Frost™
- Breakfast Nook: Rose Bay™
- Guest Bath: Ainsley™
- Primary Bath: Swanbridge™
- Designed by Nina Schmidt. Project managed by Joe Meagher and directed by Andy Gower.

Project Spotlight 3: The Classic Reimagined
- The Project: We transformed a Leawood kitchen and buffet, grounding the space with a distinctive fabrication detail.
- The Stone: The design features Cambria’s Gladstone™, a soft gray surface marked by darker veining.
- The Details: A curved island serves as the centerpiece, complementing bold blue cabinetry and gold accents, elevating the overall design.
- Designed by Donna Kirsopp and Kenny Choikhit. Project managed by Shannon Washam.

Beyond the Countertop: Creative Use of Quartz
We believe Cambria’s versatility extends beyond just kitchens and baths. Our own showroom features creative uses of the material that inspire clients:
- Showroom Wall: A bookmatched Brittanicca™ slab clads one of the walls.
- Conference Table: Ella™ tops a large, custom conference table.
- Client Inspiration: The custom conference table even inspired the design for a 22-seat dining table for a client’s extended family, which is currently a project in the works.

Beyond the Spotlight: Other Standout Cambria Projects
Leawood's Ultimate Escape
- The Project: We transformed a Leawood basement to be the ultimate family spot. It's a sleek, integrated hangout space ready for hosting and entertaining.
- The Stone: The design features Cambria’s Brittanicca Gold Warm™, on the large curved island, kitchen bar, and a full-height backsplash. This flowing design, with multihued streams of copper gold and warm earth tones, was also used for a mitered-edge shelf on the living room media feature wall.
- The Details: From the elegant curve of the island to the flawless mitered quartz shelf under the TV, the details elevate the design. The result is a highly polished, cohesive space that marries the kitchen and living areas into a spectacular, high-end hangout perfect for hosting and relaxing in style.
- Designed by Donna Kirsopp and Kenny Choikhit. Project managed by Joe Meagher and directed by Andy Gower.

Kansas City Sleek Luxury
- The Project: We transformed a galley-style Kansas City kitchen that was previously lacking efficient use of space. Our goal was to provide more counter space and update the design to be sleek, modern, bright, and highly functional.
- The Stone: The design features Cambria’s Southport™, throughout the countertops and full-height backsplash. This cool, white canvas is marked by soothing soft gray veins that embody the raw beauty of rhythmic waves, perfectly achieving a clean, modern aesthetic.
- The Details: By optimizing the galley layout and incorporating a seamless, full-height quartz backsplash, we maximized counter space and integrated a sleek built-in coffee and tea bar. The result is a bright, modern, and highly efficient kitchen where every inch of space is utilized beautifully.
- Designed by Andrea Stone. Project managed by Greg Goldstein and directed by Jeff Penrose.

Kansas City Sleek Luxury
- The Project: We transformed an Overland Park kitchen and main floor that was previously lacking personality. Our goal was to inject character, ensure the space was highly functional for a modern family with kids, and make it feel exceptionally warm and inviting.
- The Stone: The design features Cambria Delamere™, prominently on the kitchen island. This stunning quartz offers a dark, almost charcoal-chocolate surface accented by elegant white veining, providing a rich, inviting foundation at the heart of the space.
- The Details: By choosing the deep, warm tones of the quartz for the island and focusing on highly functional elements, we created a gathering space that is both sophisticated and incredibly durable. The final design is full of personality, delivering a highly functional kitchen perfectly suited to the rhythm of a busy modern family.
- Designed by Donna Kirsopp and Kenny Choikhit. Project managed by Shannon Washam.
