  • Handyman Services Hides Pool Equipment with Enclosure Addition

Last updated on April 29, 2024

Our Handyman Services team is very experienced at providing solutions unique to every home. This week, we’re looking at an issue homeowners have when it comes to the exterior of their home: storage. These clients in Leawood wanted to hide the pump system and equipment for their pool. A jumble of pipes, a filtration tank, and raw concrete wasn’t serving the aesthetics of their backyard. Designed by Troy Stout and led by Montana Ralstin, many of our Handyman Services team members had hands on this project: Frank Murillo, Casey Lynch, Mitchell Talmage, Nick Wheeler, John Burgess, and Emily Robbins. Together, they gave the exterior of our client’s home a clean look with a mini enclosure addition, which is perfect for enjoying the summer months poolside!

Many neighborhood associations prohibit detached buildings or sheds. An enclosure attached to the house like you will see in this project is a great way to add extra storage space for things like lawn equipment, outdoor toys, and pool supplies if other options are unavailable.

Before

Until now, this equipment had been partially obstructed by a single tree, and though it was doing its best, the equipment was still exposed to the elements. An enclosure would not only amp up the look of the backyard but ensure less maintenance in the future. Our clients had the tree removed prior to the start of construction.

Plenty to Consider

Troy Stout visited the home to assess the space before construction. Our handyman team had to account for existing piping, electrical supply, drainage, and the surrounding landscaping.

Building the Perfect Enclosure

Troy and our clients came up with a plan for the enclosure that would minimally impact the landscaping and could be built flush with the existing perimeter of the house.

We started by removing the existing fencing, keeping a partial section for reinstallation once the enclosure was built.

A small concrete slab was poured to serve as the base for the new enclosure. Cement brick reinforces the structure and is finished with natural stone to match the existing facade. We altered the home’s exterior framing so the new enclosure is securely attached to the existing structure.

After finishing the stonework and siding to match the home, we installed a sliding door with screen for easy access and ventilation.

Due to its utilitarian purpose, we left the interior of the enclosure unfinished.

A Mini Addition Makes the Perfect Camouflage

With some finishing touches like a pathway made from repurposed landscaping stones and the fencing reinstalled, this corner of the home is looking totally transformed! All of the pool equipment is hidden, but easily accessible. We love how the use of the sliding door gives it a more elevated look so you would never guess what’s inside!

These Handyman Services clients are very pleased to have their pool equipment hidden away in this bite-sized addition. The exterior finishings blend seamlessly with their existing home and the entire project provided a much needed upgrade to the backyard.
