Remember the days when trips down to the basement were made as quick and infrequent as possible? We didn’t want to spend one minute longer than necessary changing the laundry or grabbing that storage bin. Well, my friends that has changed, for the better. Basements today not only provide an additional living space but can hold a luxury guest room, spaciously organized laundry room, or the bar of your dreams. We're here to help provide inspiration for your basement with 12 real basement remodeling examples we love! You’ll find amazing guest room ideas, theater room setups, basement kitchen layouts, a bunk room, and bar ideas to boot.
1.Green for The Win!
Our clients purchased this new home in Riverside with an unfished basement. They brought in dream team Kelly Summers and Lindsay Brungardt to help them create a floorplan and turn it into usable spaces in their home. They now have a stunning fully functional basement kitchen, living space, full bathroom, home office, and guest bedroom. Finished in crisp whites, dark green, and wood warm tones it’s perfectly balanced. Our clients love to put their kids to bed, come downstairs, and have a date night in their own home.

2. New Bourbon Bar with An Old Stave
Look no further for stylish basement bar ideas than this custom bourbon bar! A Buffalo Trace stave acted as the kickoff for the design. Donna Kirsopp and Kenny Choikhit got out the measuring tape for the different shelf heights and proportions to allow for the different size bottles. Dark cabinetry, leather granite, and custom lights pull this stunning space together. Now someone quickly grab me a glass!
Catch all the bar details in our blog post, "America’s Spirit – A Custom Whiskey Bar".

2. Contemporary Home Theater & Bar
What better place to enjoy a family movie night than your very own movie theater? This contemporary basement theater setup has two levels of leather seating, guiding lights for the step, and panels for acoustics. Before the movie starts, they can grab snacks and a drink at their bar next door. Floating light shelves, reconstituted veneer cabinetry, and geometric give the bar its own style.

4. Luxury but Make It Cozy
Yes, this basement is the ultimate in luxury with its speakeasy style wine room, large kitchen with marble counters, and a bunk room but more than that its oh so cozy. We balanced the white walls and cabinets with warm wood tones and adjustable lighting. All the little details add to its luxury from intricate custom woodwork to unique moldings. This basement design proves that lower levels can be just as refined and inviting as the rest of the home.

5. Small Space, Big Comfort
This basement used to be exactly what you’d imagine in an original Prairie Village home - dark, no bathroom, unfinished with uneven floors. Our clients dreamed of making it not only usable but comfortable. A far cry from what it was. Donna Kirsopp and Kenny Choikhit saw so much more than the basement it was and helped our client create this fabulous space with a full bathroom, living space, bar, bedroom, and even a laundry room! It’s kind of hard to believe what they were able to accomplish in this home!

6. The Perfect Downstairs
Some of us just need a little more space in our homes. Somewhere to watch a game, have guests stay, or send the kids on the 100th snow day of 2025. Let us introduce you to that perfect basement. The basement kitchen layout is extremely functional with its full-sized fridge and dishwasher. Durable LVP floors run the length of the living and kitchen area – ideal for kids playing pop-a-shot or ping pong. Finally, the perfect basement has a spacious guest room right next to the new bathroom. See, it’s perfect!

7. The Bold & The Bar
The owners of this fabulous bar not only love hosting but enjoy just having cocktail night the two of them. They wanted to elevate their existing bar and who were we to say no?! We kept the lower cabinetry while building custom geometric shelves with LED backlighting for one wall. On the sink wall we hung three floating shelves. New countertops and tile updated the cabinetry but perhaps the standout feature (at least in these photos) is the undercounter LED lights. The lighting helps the bottles pop and creates the perfect backdrop for our clients’ collection of pop art.

8. Vino Vault
Once a secure gun room, Nina Schmidt worked with the homeowners to reimagine it into the ultimate wine vault, proving that a great remodel is all about the transformation. Now, instead of storing firepower, it safeguards a different kind of collection—one best enjoyed with good company and a great pour. With rich wood finishes, sleek glass displays, and moody lighting, this luxe retreat feels like a private tasting room tucked away in the heart of home. Cheers to a space where every bottle tells a story!

9. The Ultimate Ranch Retreat
Set on a horse ranch our clients were ready to make their walk out basement usable for entertaining. In the remodel we reconfigured the basement space, opening it up and really lighting the natural light flood in from the beautiful doors and windows. The stunning large bar has plenty of storage for bottles and an island for seating. Open to the bar is a living area and office. With warm wood tones, timeless farmhouse details, and even a full bathroom and laundry space, this basement proves that ranch life and relaxation go hand in hand!

10. A Proper Pub
Why go out when you can have the perfect pub right at home? Nestled near Loose Park this basement used to feel very...basementy - it’s a new word. The goal was make it a welcoming space that oozed with English charm. We really brought the pub to life with rich wood finishes, a welcoming bar, and warm, moody lighting that practically begs you to pull up a stool. Whether you’re pouring a pint, playing billiards, or enjoying a movie night, this space is all about good company and great conversation. With the character of a classic neighborhood pub and the comforts of home, it’s proof that the best nights out can actually be nights in! Cheers! 🍻

11. Contemporary with Rustic Charms
What started as modern basement that felt a little too chilly (both in style and temperature) is now a warm, rustic-inspired retreat. By layering in rich wood tones, a statement stone wall, and earthy textures, we gave this space some serious soul. The once-cool kitchen now invites you to pull up a leather barstool and stay a while, with a curved island that’s perfect for cocktails or conversation. And that dining area? The ultimate spot for a cozy dinner with friends, set against a rugged stone backdrop. Proof that even the most modern spaces can get a little rustic charm—with just the right touch!

12. Big Screen Dreams
This basement isn’t just a remodel—it’s a cinematic experience! Designed for the ultimate movie lover, this award-winning home theater brings the drama (in the best way possible). From plush tiered seating to custom acoustic paneling, every detail was crafted for an immersive, big-screen feel. The rich, moody colors and lighting make it feel like you’ve stepped into a luxury cinema—minus the overpriced popcorn. Whether it’s family movie night or a full-on Oscar watch party, this space proves that the best seat in the house is actually in the basement.
