  • REMY Awards 2024: Celebrating Excellence in Remodeling – A Night to Remember

Last updated on March 27, 2025

Last Thursday, December 5, the Professional Remodeling Collective hosted their annual REMY Awards, a night dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements of companies within the remodeling industry. While we’re thrilled to bring home new accolades, the highlight of the evening was the introduction of the prestigious Jake Schloegel Inspiration Award.

The Inaugural Jake Schloegel Inspiration Award

Jake Schloegel Inspiration Award | Charlie Schloegel, Jake Schloegel, Chris Peterson

This newly introduced award holds deep meaning for us, as it ensures we never lose sight of where we come from. To say we are proud of our founder, Jake Schloegel, would be an understatement. Throughout his remarkable career, Jake worked tirelessly to grow our company while inspiring, elevating, and shaping the remodeling profession as a whole.

Being honored in a room full of our peers with an award that bears Jake's name was truly unforgettable. We are excited to see the future recipients of this award and thank the Professional Remodeling Collective for this incredible recognition.

REMY Winning Projects – Remodel of the Year

In addition to the Jake Schloegel Inspiration Award, we are proud to have earned multiple Remodel of the Year (REMY) awards for our outstanding projects. These awards reflect the dedication, creativity, and craftsmanship our team brings to every remodel.

Basement – Gold, All Star & Best of Show

The Lux Lower Level

Best of Show basement

The word basement doesn’t feel adequate for this sensational project – which is why we dubbed it The Lux Lower Level. This was the big winner of the night taking home a Gold All Star and Best of Show! Our client has a gift for design and came to us with fantastic ideas. Together with Gayle Jagoda, Brandon Brewington, and Jeff Penrose we brought those ideas to life. We want to make a special call out to Brian Cole and Randy Shepherd on this project too. They did every piece of millwork, cabinet installation, and custom made the bunk beds.

Our clients, who built their home 10 years ago, were eager to transform their mostly unfinished basement into a stylish dream space. After working on them with projects in the past, they trusted us with this high-design renovation, which included a bunk room, kitchen, full bathroom, custom built-ins, and a speakeasy-inspired wine room. The L-shaped bunk room layout created the ultimate sleepover setup, while the new kitchen became a bright, central hub for entertaining. Throughout, intricate custom woodwork and unique moldings added sophistication, blending timeless warmth with the dark, atmospheric vibe of the wine room, perfectly capturing the clients' vision for a luxurious yet inviting space. Design & Plans – Gold & All-Star
Reimagining A Farmhouse: Unfolding New Spaces

Design & Plans REMY winner

Really every award we receive is also a design and plans award. Our design team sets Schloegel’s projects apart. We don’t just design what we’re told by clients, we design for our client’s lifestyles. This project was the essence of that statement. Our clients originally came to us asking for an addition. They felt the only way to get what they wanted out of their Blue Springs farmhouse was to add on. After understanding what they all needed to fit their lifestyle we determined we could re-work their existing home and deliver on everything they wanted. This award is appropriately named Reimagining a Farmhouse: Unfolding New Spaces and shares how we did just that. You can see some of the project in our recent blog post "Wasted Space to Wow Factor: Transforming Attics into Functional Gems". Congrats to the entire team Leslie Hatfield, Katy Culwell, Donna Kirsopp, Kenny Choikhit, Brenda Axman, and of course Project Director Andy Gower!

Entire House – Gold & All Star

Reimagined Heirloom

Whole House remodeling award winner

Every once in a while, a project comes along that feels truly special—this historic 1933 home was exactly that. Passed down from the client’s grandmother, who had lived in it for 62 years, the house was brimming with memories and charm, but it needed updates to suit a modern family of five. Our task? Transform the compartmentalized layout and dated 1980s décor into a space that’s functional, open, and warm. From asbestos surprises to framing issues, we navigated challenges with care, ensuring that the home could continue its legacy while meeting the needs of its new owners. Kelly Summers, Lindsay Brungardt, Trevor Gariety, and Andy Gower were the dream team behind this stunning project. See the entire project in our post "Reimagined Heirloom: Transforming a Treasured Prairie Village Home into a Space for New Memories."

Entire House – Silver
California Coastal Dreaming

Whole House remodel winner

After living in this home for a few years, our clients envisioned a remodel with two primary suites but paused the project with thoughts of moving to California. Unfortunately, a water line rupture caused extensive damage and they used the opportunity to remodel the entire home. Embracing their coastal dreams, we reimagined the home with light colors, airy spaces, and coastal vibes. The design ensured that each room flowed seamlessly into the next while maintaining its own distinct style. The project included a kitchen rebuild, updates to living areas, bathrooms, essentially every square inch, and captured their West Coast inspiration. This dreamy project was made a reality by Nina Schmidt, Joe Meagher, and Andy Gower. We can’t wait to share more about this project soon!

Residential Bath – Silver

A Return to Timeless Design: From Chaos to Calm

Bathroom REMY winner

This bathroom was part of a larger project but too good not to share! When our repeat clients moved in, they were excited to transform their kitchen - but the upstairs bathroom soon became an additional focus. The shower sprayed water in all the wrong directions, tiles felt chaotic, and the vanity lacked proper storage. We stepped in, drawing inspiration from the home’s 1920s origins. A sleek glass variation of the original hexagonal tile brought a modern twist, while a custom oak vanity maximized storage and tied into the kitchen’s finish. We even embraced the rounded ceiling to preserve the home’s charm. The result? A bathroom that beautifully blends modern elegance with timeless character. Maggie Stephenson, Megan Bringman, Shannon Washam, and Jason Goertzen made this project come to life! Relax & Recharge: Creating a Spa Retreat

Bathroom remodeling award

This bathroom transformation turned a cramped, awkward space into a serene, spa-like retreat. The original layout, with a sloped ceiling and a barely functional tub/shower, lacked storage and style. By expanding the footprint and incorporating clever design solutions, we created a bright, open space with a luxurious soaking tub, spacious shower, and custom vanity. Symmetry, enhanced lighting, and a calming color palette of white subway tiles, gray hexagonal flooring, and ocean-inspired hues bring relaxation to the forefront. The result is a functional yet elegant bathroom that perfectly meets our clients' needs for both practicality and tranquility. Kelly Summers, Lindsay Brungardt, Andy Gower, and Trevor Gariety made this bathroom a reality. We’ll be sharing more details on it soon!

Residential Bathroom – Gold & All Star

A Bathroom Merging Elegance with Accessibility

All Star award winning bathroom

Our clients were ready to transform their outdated primary bath into a safe, accessible space without sacrificing style. They worked with Donna and Kenny to design a luxurious, spa-like retreat that would also meet their evolving needs. The new layout features a large zero-entry shower, quartz countertops, brass fixtures, and creamy white cabinetry, blending accessibility with elegance. This reimagined space enhances both comfort and practicality, ensuring it can be enjoyed for years to come. See the full bathroom and before photos in our post, "A Blend of Elegance and Accessibility: The Perfect Primary Bath". Donna Kirsopp, Kenny Choikhit, Brenda Axman, and Shannon Washam created this luxurious retreat.

A Mid-Century Split-Level Reborn

Award winning interior remodel

After a decade in their 1960s split-level, this family of four was ready to give their home the personality and functionality it deserved. We teamed up with the homeowner—a commercial designer with a sharp eye for style—to break down walls (literally!) and breathe new life into the space. The goal? An open-concept layout with mid-century charm and modern flair. Think sleek white oak cabinetry, bold black accents, and statement light fixtures. Tackling structural hurdles, like an 18-foot beam, only added to the fun. The result? A stunning transformation that feels fresh, functional, and perfectly them! Donna KirsoppKenny ChoikhitBrenda Axman, and Shannon Washam made this project happen. See more on this project soon!

Residential Interior Feature – Gold

From Obstacle to Oasis

Interior feature winner

Once a daily obstacle course, this home's dining area stood awkwardly between the kitchen and family room, disrupting the natural flow. Since buying the house in 2019, the homeowners struggled with poor layout and frustrating backyard access. To create the seamless, inviting space they craved, Lindsay Brungardt reimagined the area with a custom-built banquette, repositioned the back door, and restructured the layout to enhance foot traffic. The addition of stunning new windows now frames panoramic views of the lush backyard and barbecue area, transforming the space into a bright, cohesive hub perfect for both relaxation and entertainment. Lindsay Brungardt, Thomas Schauffler, and Kirk Thomas perfectly executed this amazing project. Read our "Built-In Banquette by Our Handyman Services Team" blog post to learn more about this project.

Classic Beauty, Modern Function: A Kitchen Revamp

Kansas City Kitchen remodel

After customizing their last home, our clients couldn’t resist purchasing a Tudor Revival built in 1923, attracted by its dream backyard. However, the interior, particularly the dated and poorly designed kitchen, fell short. They wanted a larger, more functional kitchen with improved storage, a better layout, and larger windows to showcase the backyard. We presented three design options, and they selected a layout maximizing counter space with rift white oak cabinets stained in straw. Classic choices in white paint, tile, and quartz counters create a clean yet luxurious modern classic aesthetic, seamlessly blending with the home's historic charm. Maggie Stephenson, Megan Bringman, Shannon Washam, and Jason Goertzen made this project come to life! You can read more about the project and see the before pics in our "Crafting a Cohesive Home: A Kansas City Kitchen and Bath Remodel" blog post.
