  • We address the 20 biggest remodeling concerns – the stuff that keeps you up at night.

Last updated on March 27, 2023

Remodels, renovations, updates, whatever you call them, are an investment in your home. We know they can be intimidating, so we’re addressing the 20 concerns that may keep you up at night.

1. “I’m worried about the cost. Remodeling can be expensive, and I don’t want to overspend.”

We understand your concern about the cost; we’ll work with you to understand your needs while being mindful of your budget. Your contract will be all-inclusive of your project, so you don’t have any unwanted cost surprises during construction. Our team will work with you to find a design and plan that fits within your budget while still achieving your remodeling goals.

In one of our podcast episodes, Ready to Remodel? Let’s Discuss Budget! Ron Webster shares how to budget for a remodel. He addresses where to start, how to tackle large projects and other helpful insights.

Schloegel just finished a 3 month project in my home; two baths, kitchen and fireplace and bannister. Project finished on time, communication was great, and I love the finished product. They worked with me on lowering costs where possible and we still fit in some custom elements. They listen and help to stay in your budget. Their process was the selling point for me, they keep things moving and on time, with an entire team on our project. They hire professional, knowledgeable employees and use professional subs. Would definitely use them again!” – Terr N.

2. “I’m concerned about the timeline. How long will the project take, and will it disrupt my life too much?”

Living in a construction zone can be stressful, so we work hard to minimize disruption to your daily life. In fact, we designed our process to make remodeling as painless as possible. We provide a detailed timeline for your project and do our best to stick to it. You can access the schedule, project updates, and photos in your online account. During our weekly team meetings, we’ll carefully discuss any challenges, and our team will keep you apprised of any changes or delays.

If you’d like to learn more about our process, check out Gayle Jagoda’s virtual workshop, The Design Remodel Process, where she explains our process in depth.

3. “I don’t know if I can trust the contractor to do a good job.”

Trust is crucial when remodeling your home, so we only hire experienced, skilled, and licensed professionals. Our team follows several core values, one of which is integrity. We enable our team members to do the right thing in every situation. Sometimes that has even meant ripping something out and re-doing it, but when we leave your project, we want to ensure you are 100% happy. Don’t just take our word for it; we have a portfolio of completed projects and references from previous clients that can attest to our quality of work.

Our amazing clients, The Gunnisons, share their kitchen remodeling experience.

4. “I’m not sure if my ideas for the remodel are practical or achievable.”

We wouldn’t be where we are today if we couldn’t help our client’s ideas come to life! You’ll work closely with your designer and our degreed architect to ensure your home’s design improves your lifestyle and is within your budget. They will guide you in your home’s design and selections to bring your vision to life. They will work with you to understand your needs and preferences and create a practical and achievable design within your budget.

5. “I’m concerned about the mess and cleanup during and after the project.”

Yes, there is no denying it; remodeling is messy; however, we are dedicated to keeping your home as clean and tidy as possible during remodeling. We use drop cloths and plastic barriers to protect your floors and furniture and clean up thoroughly at the end of each workday. Our team usually spends our first day at your home setting up floor protection and installing all the protective barriers. This step is crucial to your project’s success.

“Schloegel workers did a fabulous job on my living room remodel. Ron Webster helped with the design and picking out materials. This is the 4th job Schloegel has completed for us. The people are professional, efficient, clean, and considerate of my home. I will use them again for any further projects.” – Cindy M.

6. “I’m worried about the noise level during construction.”

We understand that construction noise can be disruptive, so we try to minimize noise levels as much as possible. We also communicate with you about the noisy stages of the project and work with you to find a schedule that works for you.

7. “I’m concerned about the safety of my family and pets during construction.”

Your pets are an extension of your family and we treat them like our own. In fact, we hear the most challenging part for pets is when we leave. For that reason, we take safety seriously, which is why we follow all safety regulations and take extra precautions to ensure the safety of your family and pets. Creating a safe zone in your home during construction may be necessary in certain situations.

My husband and I used Schloegel for a guest bath expansion and remodel. It was a painless process (I was expecting it to be hard), but Ron made the process so easy. The hardest part was when they were finished, the dog was depressed when no one came over to give him treats!” – Amy M.

8. “I’m afraid that the finished project won’t match the vision in my head.”

Our team will work closely with you throughout the remodeling process to ensure that the final result meets or exceeds your expectations. Through our Design Process, we’ll present multiple options and work with you to pick the best one and adapt it to your needs. After you have selected, our team will create a 3D rendering to bring your project to life, and you can perfectly visualize it.

9. “I’m worried about the impact of the remodel on the environment.”

We are committed to sustainability and using eco-friendly materials whenever possible. We also take steps to minimize waste and reduce our carbon footprint. Whenever possible, we donate reusable materials and appliances to Habitat Restore. Learn more about how we recycle on projects.

10. “I’m concerned about the contractor’s reputation and whether they have a history of completing projects on time and within budget.”

We have a track record of completing projects on time and within budget. Positive reviews and testimonials from previous clients attest to our professionalism and quality of work.

“We did a major remodeling project with Schloegel – skylights, powder bath, pantry, laundry room, floors, trim, and paint. They were great. They are the most professional contractor we have ever worked with. Constant communication. Stayed on schedule. Did quality work. And it’s beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for any more.” – Andy D.

11. “I’m worried about the quality of materials used in the remodel.”

We only use high-quality, durable materials built to last, but that doesn’t always mean the most expensive. Your vision will help us guide you in material selection, and we’ll work to find the perfect fit for your project! We also provide warranties on our workmanship and materials.

“Schloegel remodeled my home eleven years ago! It was absolutely perfect! Not one issue!” – Kathy M.

We work with several cabinet manufacturers, including Crown Cabinetry. Take a look at how Crown Cabinets are made.

12. “I’m afraid of hidden costs that might arise during the project.”

This is a common fear, and unfortunately, we’ve all heard horror stories of a project costing double the original quote. This is why our design process is so important. We’ll create your plans during design, receive exact sub and vendor quotes, and select all your materials. Your final construction quote will include everything in your project! We can’t always plan for the unknown, but your team will keep you informed of any changes or unforeseen costs that may arise during the project.

13. “I’m concerned about the contractor’s ability to handle unexpected issues or problems that may arise during the project.”

We understand that unexpected issues can arise during any remodeling project and are well-equipped to handle them. Our team has the experience and expertise to identify and solve any problems that may arise, and we keep you informed throughout the process.

“From minor changes we wanted to make as we saw how the project was coming together to bigger changes due to the nature of things you can’t know about until you start a demo in a 1950’s built home – the team at Schloegel was always able to pivot to make the project turn out exactly as we had envisioned it. We could not be any happier with every facet of working with the amazing team at Schloegel Design!!” – Phoebe S.

14. “I’m worried the remodel will not add value to my home.”

A well-executed remodel almost always adds value to your home; however, there are MANY variables when determining home value. We always suggest speaking with a real estate agent or getting an appraisal to determine exact value increases. We always aim to improve your home for your family’s needs and function. Our team’s knowledge and expertise will create a thoughtful design that is well-executed to help add value to your home. We also stay up-to-date with the latest trends and designs to ensure that your remodel meets the highest standards and is attractive to potential buyers. Here are 10 Design Trends for 2023

15. “I’m concerned about the level of communication between the contractor and me.”

This is such a valid concern. The success of a remodeling project hinges upon communication. We value clear and open communication with our clients. We do this in several ways. You’ll receive daily logs and photos of your project’s progress on your BuilderTrend account. We also set a weekly standing meeting for your project. This allows us to review the project status and address any of your concerns and questions.

“I love the honest and clear communication at every stage of the project – from inception of design all the way to final approval and completion.” – Neal S.

“I’ve got to say, I’ve worked with a number of construction / remodeling contractors and Schloegel’s communication was by far the best. Super responsive and professional.” – Adam A.

16. “I’m worried about the mess and disruption to my neighbors during the remodel.”

We are mindful of construction’s impact on your neighbors and take steps to minimize disruption and inconvenience. We communicate with your neighbors via a Pardon Our Dust letter. The letter lets them know our teams will be working in their neighborhood and provides the project managers’ contact information should they have any issues or concerns.

“They sent me a letter letting me know they were doing work on my street. Letting me know they will do their best to not be burdensome to us. I have worked with them in the past on a couple minor projects and they have been just wonderful. I thought it was a nice touch. Bravo Schloegel Bravo.” – Dustin O.

17. “I’m concerned about the contractor’s liability insurance and whether I am protected in case of accidents or damages.”

We carry comprehensive liability insurance to protect you and your property in case of accidents or damages during the project. We also provide written guarantees and warranties on our workmanship and materials.

18. “I’m worried the remodel will not meet building codes or regulations.”

We do NOT believe in shortcuts. Your home is an investment and a place you should always be safe. We have a team that stays up-to-date with all building codes and regulations. Our team works with city and county officials to ensure that all necessary permits are obtained and that all work meets the required standards.

19. “I’m concerned about the contractor’s ability to stick to the agreed-upon timeline.”

We understand the importance of meeting deadlines and working hard to ensure your project is completed on time. In addition to providing you with a day-by-day schedule, we also provide status updates at our weekly, on-site meetings where we discuss any challenges, delays, or changes to the timeline. Our 40+ years in remodeling ensure we have scheduling down to a science which is part of what makes our company a success!

“I just finished my kitchen remodel with Schloegel Designs. Absolutely love the professionalism, attention to detail, and the craftsmanship of the entire project. Everyone is so nice and professional; you will love the level of service and speed. My project took 22 days, and they never missed a deadline. If you want the most professional turnkey you do nothing but enjoy your kitchen then I’d highly recommend Schloegel for your project.” – Roy S.

20. “I’m worried about the stress and emotional toll of the remodeling process.”

We understand that remodeling can be stressful, and we work to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. Our team is professional, respectful, and dedicated to creating a positive experience for you throughout the project. We even created a graph to show the highs and lows you’ll likely experience during your remodel. The good news, we’ve never had a client regret their project. One of the most common phrases is, “We wished we would have done this earlier!”

“We are in the midst of our kitchen remodel, and our service has been top-notch! From the beginning, as the design was coming together, to the execution, it has been nothing but a very pleasant and fun experience. The designers have done an excellent job taking our vision and converting it into reality, and adding personal touches we didn’t know we wanted. The contractors are punctual, very friendly, and are very good at their craft.”Misty S.
