  • 2021 Big Splash Custom Bathroom Giveaway

Last updated on October 4, 2021

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and no we don’t mean the holidays. We mean our Big Splash Custom Bathroom Giveaway! Each year Schloegel Design Remodel gives a bathroom away to a deserving family with a child who has special needs.

There are so many amazing families in our area that struggle to help their children with daily bathroom activities because most bathrooms aren’t built with accessibility in mind. We know how small changes can make a huge impact on a child’s life and that is why we started the Big Splash Bathroom Giveaway eleven years ago. It is an opportunity for our team to use their expertise to give back to the community we love so much.

Love Fund for Children helps us spread the word to Kansas City families each year but we need your help too! You can do that by simply sharing this information with those you know or going a step further and sharing our posts on social media. Schloegel and the Love Fund know that by working together a little care can make a big splash!

How it Works

We will be taking nominations for children that would benefit from an accessible bathroom now through Friday, October 29, 2021.

The giveaway includes a complete bathroom makeover which includes handicap accessible fixtures and features, a $25,000 value. The recipient will be announced the first week of December and the project will be completed in 2022. Take a look at the Giveaway Rules for more details.

Mickey was born with multiple genetic mutations. He has a diagnosis of Phelan McDermid Syndrome, along with CP, autism, global hypotonia, Epilepsy, and developmental delay. Today, at 10 years old, Mickey loves to crawl and play but requires assistance in most of his daily needs.

Mickey enjoys books, flashcards, music, and cartoons with Sesame Street and Frozen being a cut above the rest. One of his greatest enjoyments is bath time where he can play in the water. That is why creating larger space for Mickey to safely get in and out of the bathtub was crucial.

“I could never have imagined how much the new bathroom would change our lives. I walk in sometimes and still can’t believe it’s ours. There’s so much room to accommodate Mickey’s needs now, and room for both Kelly and I to be in there helping him. Mickey has actually been utilizing the shower a lot more than the bath lately because he loves to sit under the running water and likes me to wave the sprayer all over his back like he’s at a spa 😄.

Giving Mickey a bath was always so difficult before, and sad because I knew he loved it but I physically couldn’t give him the long, fun bath time he always wanted. With a kid like him so many enjoyable activities are not an option. We are so restricted with the places we can take him and things we can do. Going into the bathroom and just letting him spend time enjoying his favorite thing because we have room to accommodate his needs is the biggest gift we’ve ever received. In our experience, as Mickey ages opportunities become fewer and fewer for him. The world just isn’t built for kids with disabilities, and it only gets harder as they age. So to have one little slice of heaven that is ours, that we can enjoy for the rest of his life because it is accessible in so many ways that will grow WITH him, is priceless. Not to mention it is absolutely gorgeous, and Kelly and I enjoy it just as much as Mickey does!! We could never fully explain what it means to us and how much we appreciate Big Splash! “ – Erika Hinrichs
